Xbox 360 Blu-ray rumour debunked

Poor as in not displaying half of them at all? Or poor as in you can't pause, FF, RWD, poor quality etc?

Poor as in not displaying SUBSTANTIALLY MORE than half of them. Sometimes it works, and then everything works fine, even the multi-channel audio. But other files (even with same audio and video codecs at the same settings) don't work. I think it might have something to do with the application used to transcode them in the first place; different implementations of the algorithm, etc.

Is that why you have a Sony HT? :/

Yes for it's price it performs very well as compared to your 100K HT system that until a very few days/week ago had no HD TV and still no Blue ray player. But please do not make this thread one of your half bastard 100K HT system cum Dolby DD5.1 threads again. You in your own words stated that you would like to argue about things that You have not experienced yourself YET. :D

Oh really, ever heard of google?

Yep, definitely 360 models without HDMI (I was comparing to the lowest common denominator SKU for each console)

@Dolby : Think we are in the same boat as you and KERRANG...but that's not to say that as a consumer product, the 360 is still inferior and some of it is directly attributed to MS's marketing decisions....for e.g., 50gb might not have necessarily improved the quality of games (arguable as per Kerrangs point with regards to KZ2 and UC2), but it's scratch resistant and allows me to play HD movies (blu-ray), so it wasn't exclusively for graphics...
I doubt we'll see the benefit of blu-ray for another year, and then it will make a big difference...PS3 is definitely gonna age better than 360 or even the likely wii HD !

That they do. And as long as they remain part of "The Uninformed", they'll keep buying. Guess there's no accounting for taste. ;)

And argue for sake of arguing just because they lack true vision and experience, As Dolby stated he never believed that a 100HZ LCD TV makes a difference, and he would have argued the point (Did?) if he did not see and experience it for himself. Obvously as he did not use a PS3 to the fullest he will argue to death untill one day he connects (Up in there), try it and like with his "NEW" LCD TV, get dubmstruck again in AWE!

You see, While we enjoy our systems he is still building up his. He likes to do in in "stages" so he can enjoy the next new item before he buys another. So he does it in stages. Unfortunately he never got past the Xbox stage so he is losing out on the best things thats is current in technology today. BLuRay and PS3!.

So when someone buys an arcade that runs the same as a PS3 for games (usually better) for a better price you think they are cheap? Yet when you buy something that isnt the "best" but is decent for its price you're not cheap? Are you one of those people that says everyone else is cheap and play mr bigshot while secretly under the table you're cutting out coupons from the newspaper to save R1 on your Nyke's from pep?

Actually - I'm willing to bet there is a pretty large difference. I reckon anyone would be able to tell you or I that the difference is worth the extra. Where do you stay?

Btw, as I've mentioned about 10 times before, that's everything included. When it comes to the sound section, you're looking at half that. You have a HUGE issue with price, don't you? If you hadn't deleted half your posts, you'd be on mentioning 100k about 30 times!

Also - what you fail to understand, is that I had and currently have no need to full HD. There are - believe it or not - people who don't see value in certain things and prefer to wait until pricing has stabilised. Who cares if I had no HD TV? I wasn't into my movies and theatre and prefer sound alot more.

I have no need for the latest and fastest PC, a 60" LCD TV or a many other items. Does it make it wrong that I don't have those?

PS I attend many trade shows, sound shows, expo's, am a member of many audio/video forums and subscribe to most AV magazines. On top of this, I have a very keen interest in AV and admittingly, am still learning. I - unlike you - will admit to things I did not know and haven't learnt everything just yet. I'll tell you when I'm wrong - or blown back by what I see or experience.

I often listed to sound systems R500,000+ and actually do know know the **** you speak. The reason you get your back up, is because there is someone on here that can tell you that you have no idea about HD formats and cannot hear marginal difference - especially with a PS3/Sony.

He does harper on about 100K again and again doesn't he? Then seems to have the audacity to label people cheapskates. Tut tut.

IAP: go buy a Ford.

Scratch resistant? That's what you brought away from BD? Honestly?

I think he's just jealous, Sony should make him a special PS3 that has wireless N (He sure does mention it a lot) and costs 100k, then he can tell Dolby he also has a 100k system and he wont be angry anymore.

I do ge your drift ;)

I think many of PS3 games are 720 resolution and not a full 1080 like people think Yet the 1080p(native) ones for PS3 are better than the one's for 360? Are there any on 360?
The 50GB BR storage (games) makes no difference to the quality or graphics of the game (Thats your opinion, maybe due to the so called ported multiplats, how would You know? Obviously as there is more data on the BR that can get "Streamed" to the PS3 with the end resulting in a much better game Graphically and Quality wise. See U2 and KZ2 (more to come) You should qualify and substantiate with information these lack statements you make, sore thumb yet?)
Up until recently, the unit coudn't bitstream to allow a decent AV amplifier to take care of processing (And you only found that out a few minutes later, when you googled quickly, after I made the statement to the fact, that it is indeed the case. (that was after you badmouthed me, when I mentioned that I play DTS HD master titles on the PS3.) You also recently admitted there could be a problem with your receivers compatibility) The PS3 "OLD" do DTS MASTER HD over LPCM to any 8*channels speaker systems. Lossless! The only difference and All you will miss is the indicator on your receiver and maybe a very small "percieved" quality difference but as YOU said yourself, nobody would be able to hear the very small difference
)

The media streaming is very basic - cannot search, can't display .mkv or certain other codecs, no decent GUI (Therefore we use PS3 Media server, TSmuxer and other tools, Still far more advanced to anything Xbox 360 offers)
Although it has wireless, it's not enough to handle HD streaming Can the Xbox do it? (Therefore there exists simple 3rd party devices that can do exactly that using, wireless "N" technology (for under R1000.00 cost, ADSL modem and receiver dongle included) Also you could use the 1GB lan. (Xbox?)

Sony cut down on features from the initial (backwards compatibilty, SACD etc) (It was not needed by most)
Horrible little controls dating back to 1994 - which the initial lacked any rumbling support ( A matter of opinion, millions like it in fact)
Six-Axis - hardly any games make use of this very basic motion type control (So most of the the games I played use it, Which games did you try with it? Oh none, The loaned PS3 was just lying dormant for 8 months because of incompatibility, that was presumably before the latest PS3 firmware updates.)

I could go on too, but you get my drift ;)

Most, if not all those claims you made can be "fixed" if needed by Firmware upgrades, bar one which is the RAW bitream "passthrough" that the Old PS3 hardware can not do (but the PS3 slim can) but it is not required to enjoy very good DTS HD master decoding on 8 channel surround sound and 1080p high quality Video on even a cheap Sony HT sound system and decent SONY LCD display all working together flawlessly under HDMI CEC control.

I get the drift, You are a Xbox fan trying to slate a PS3 console you really know little about and experienced even less of it. You could not get a loan PS3 working in 8 (eight) months on your system.

So Yeah, we got the drift of that slipped wind!

because they havent tried anything better, or as you like to say, they dont know any better........or because they have small female hands

Hey, a Ferrari isn't required to drive you from A to B either. But damn if it feels a lot better in an R8.

Why don't you buy better equipment? Cheapskate.

Don't you get the feeling maybe Dolby felt it just wasn't worth his while to get the PS3 working when his other equipment did a superior job?

you could not get the PS3 to work on your 100K HT system in 8 (yes eight) months.
,

stated that your R100K HT system's receiver seems to have the problem and you are contemplating selling it.

you are the expert because you have a 100K Home theathre system without a BluRay player and a HD LCD screen then (as you got yours only afterwards).

Not everyone can afford to buy (and compare) R100K HT systems

For 100K and you do not have a BluRay player, then you pose the exspert? What a joker.

LOL, 100K system my A$$.

You want my advice, Here goes: sell your 100K system and buy a life.

Some idiot then started to compare the PS3 to 100K HT theather systemsn and you blame me?

as you could not get your "100K" equipment working with the sony PS3 in 8 months

Nobody ever claimed the OLD PS3 could to HDMI bitream pass through for your apparent 100K system to do the "better"/"best" decoding.

And a few others ....

There is nothing on the market that can do what the PS3 slim do for the price! But I can understand that with a 100K sound system

The trialed a PS3 for eight months and could not get it to work on his HIGH END (doesn't it sound like drug abuse?) HT system

you may want to look at something decent like 10K for a BluRay player which maybe still wont do what the PS3 slim can do.

Nope I do not Brag with friend and BRAG about 100K systems on the internet like You!

The original article was referring as per topic and you came jumping on me because in 8 months you could not make it work on YOUR 100K HT system

And obviously many that I haven't quoted and you've deleted :/

because they havent tried anything better, or as you like to say, they dont know any better........or because they have small female hands

Well, their hand models are all Japanese, so I can understand.

I mean, especially if Japanese pron is anything to go buy :p

Just remember you also admitted that you like to argue about things untill you see the real fact for yourself! Till then you would not believe it. That settles it then.

Capiche!

BTW if you was such and HD and sound fundi you would very well know that what you hear and see is all peception and diffres from person to person. So if you have hearing impairment then do not ass-sume everyone else have the same problem. I have been listening to DTS ES 6.2 sound while you were still stuck on your nick Dolbt5.1 which are far less cable than even DTS 5.1.

Anyway enjoy your 100K system you bragged about, it seems my cheap Sony HT system and PS3 together does more than your aspiring 100K system at the moment. Albeit at a slight quality loss. BTW the only fans that idolize you and that think you know what you are on about can be counted on two of my fingers.

Ass-sume... hehehe, wow your argument is really going down hill. Ass-sume. Nob.

Seriously dude what the hell is with you and 100K, you sound like scratched Bluray disc.
