xbox 360 dying?

cool! i got a new xbox with out much hassle from cna fourways. They didnt give me the games that cam with the xbox they had, but then i understand that it was just a swap.

In terms of manufacture date i am also pretty chuffed as the xbox was manufactured this year which hopefully means they have ironed out any previous manufacturer flaws.

thanks for the tip of phoning ahead to see if they had stock. strangely enuff cna fourways was where i originally bought my xbox.

just a note my old xbox's manufacture date was 2006.

NOW TO GET GTA :D

Apology if this is a very belated reply and/or silly question, but exactly where/how do I contact Microsoft to get a reference number?

Console Exchange Service

Before you request an exchange, search our knowledge base as many problems can be solved quickly and easily without having to send your console away.

If you do need an exchange, please complete the Warranty Procedure Claim Form and contact the Exchange Centre for an 'Authorization Number' using one of the following methods:

* Telephone: 0861XBOX360 (0861 926 9360) or (011) 997 5000
* Email: [email protected]
* Fax: 086 686 9058 / 086 629 8599 / 086 523 3300 / 086 553 7406 / 086 562 2078 / 086 579 2212 / 086 579 2214

This 'Authorization Number' is very important and will be used to track the exchange process. An Authorization Number will only be issued if the proof of purchase is sent through, and if your Xbox 360 falls within the warranty periods.

If your console is in warranty you will be asked to complete the Warranty Procedure Claim Form and send in proof of purchase. You will receive a doorstep swap from a local courier, who will exchange your old console with a replacement, all free of charge. Only the console must be given to the courier – please remove all accessories, including the hard drive, and check any games have been removed from your console. Please note, the three year warranty only applies to consoles with three flashing lights, or the E74 error message, and you must have proof of purchase, otherwise a handling fee applies (see below).

If your console is out of warranty, or if you do not have proof of purchase, you can still arrange for an exchange of your console by contacting the Exchange Centre. The cost for an out of warranty exchange is R680.00. You can choose to have a courier complete a doorstep swap, in which your old console will be exchanged with a replacement, which costs R250.00. Or, you can go to the Exchange Centre to collect the replacement console. In this case, the R250.00 charge for courier services will not apply.

Please contact the Exchange Centre directly if you have any questions. Hours of operation are 8am -5pm (Mon - Fri).

Hmmm... I didn't know that.

Juice was the unfortunate victim of a resurrected post. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Thanks timgaul, sorry Juice.

Seems like I have to pay the R680 fee even though it's not my fault. I do not encounter the RRoL yet I have audio with no video output.

The only other option is to leave it on for 4 months (what's left of my 3 year 'warranty') and hope I get RRoL or I can attempt fix it myself.

What a money pit - will surely be getting a PS3 next time and avoid any future Xbox, especially launch versions at all cost!
