Each time when we attempt to access anything that uses Xbox live, from the Xbox 360, our internet connection is dropped. ie The line is basically reset and has to resync.

The changes that started this was a line upgrade from ADSL to VDSL and hence had to put in a new router. I am now using a TP-Link TD-W9980. Clearly it is not a change that we can roll back.

Other than the WAN connection that is reset, all other functions on the router are normal. The logs do not provide much info either, and can just see the line drop (LCP) and then the resync events.

From other fora we have tried many of the proposed fixes which included
- Enabling Fullcone NAT
- Setting up the port forwarding (for multiplayer functionality)
- Placing the Xbox into a DMZ
- Using Google's DNS (iso the ISPs)
- Setting up Static IP for Xbox
- Disabling Firewall on router

We have also factory reset the Xbox too as some posts suggesting corrupt profiles.

Anyone else had similar and managed to fix it?

Some thoughts:
1. Try use cable instead of WIFI to connect your Xbox360.
2. Try repro this issue with no other devices connected to your router other than the Xbox360
3. Check your line stats - attenuation, snr, etc.
4. Try another router.

I had something similar happen at my old residence where I had poor line quality and as soon as I tried to torrent over WIFI it would resync my line. Tried TP link and Billion and saw the same thing. I suspect a combination of a bad line and high number of TCP connections tends to make these 'cheaper' router boards freak out. Both routers work fine since I moved.

1.Only have wired connection on X box.
2.If leave X box off, have no issues. As soon as login to X box live -bang it drops every time.
3. Basic Status

Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 1021 19259
Max Rate (Kbps) 1073 19400
SNR Margin (dB) 8.1 6.2
Line Attenuation (dB) 9 18.9
Not sure if any of those are too far out, but would a single device on the lan side cause an issue ?

4. That's not an easy solution ;-)

Update on 4.
Took router to mates house who also has an xbox, albeit a later model, and all worked fine.
