xbox 360 Kinect

man ive been dreaming about the kinect for the past few nights
was at incredible yesterday , tested it there on the test unit, was awesome
i really feel like buying one, but everybodys charging the standard R1999, except kalahari
wonder if the prices will drop with a few rand in a months time? or will they keep this price till after xmas?

how are you finding it?
 
Do you think it works well? I saw a demo in the shop and it seems to have similar quirks to the Wii.
 
was able to get through the menus without any hassles but stopped short of making my name gat when i had to start to dance along with the avatar in the game
 
it works prety well, I have the Wii as well, so i can say it does worka bit better, as it picks up your whole body. there is however a slight almost un noticeable lag sometimes.
The voice reconition work in some parts of the menu but you need to set your console to US, but if you sign on to live and have a RSA or europe ID, it will switch off (aparently voice recognition only works in USA for now i guess us and uk dont speaky englis good enough for them :( )
For kids, my 5 year old got the hang of it quite quicly and she is very for her age tiny as well and it picked her up so 3 or 4 year old should have much trouble.
Once set up the face reconition works great, my duaghter was playing an i steped into view and it signed up my profile instantly and let me in the game as well,

You do need quite alot of space to play (length and breath) i curently have a small lounge so i need to move my cofee table and couch out of the way.
 
So far its lived up to some of the hype, sure there's a slight lag and the voice prompts are limited but how cool is it say "Xbox Open Tray" or "Xbox Play Disc" from the couch, that's damn impressive. I'm loving dance central (I look ridiculous dancing) and Fitness Evolved is brilliant giving you a personal trainer, gym workouts and calorie counter. All in all its a great product.
 
I'd rather just press a button on the control to get it to do something. Rather than saying xbox command all the time. Way too slow.

The reviews of the kinect haven't been that mind blowing either.

think kinect needs an immersive first person game like fallout to prove the game. it'll be awesome,
im just scared that with the crap titles out now, it'll be a passing fad which will pass in a few weeks , like a lot of wii's just lying there
 
Woop woop, my birthday is around the corner :D. I am so going to get myself a kinect :). I saw the demo at musica sandton. It's AWESOME. Just got a few questions. What games are there and can you use all features like watching movies, voice control etc...

you dont have to say the comand, you can just wave (or use the controler) but cmon have you never watched star trek and think you could just speak and your computer would do what you say?

same with the Move. no point in getting it now. wait for games to evolve with this motion stuff before getting it
 
I have one, and think it is awesome. Finally my whole family can enjoy the xbox without hassling me because they can also play.

The Table Tennis and Bowling is the most fun for me at the moment!!!

Fighters Uncaged struggles to pick up all my movements and is alot of hard work :)
 
No premium games for the kinect though. Just Wii minimals. And the cost!!! 2k, might as well get myself the ps3 and move.

Had the same thing, so bought a new 250gb kinect bundle.

Kids are loving it. I've hardly used it, apart from setting it up and testing it. It works surprisingly well.
