Xbox 360 to get Blu-ray?

Were the fans not saying that blu-ray is not necessary? Maybe M$ is not listening to the people anymore. :p

If Microsoft was to include an external Blu-ray player, then a portion of the PS3’s extra value proposition would be removed

How can you make such a statement as the BD player will not be included in the same price, but be available as an add on? so the value proportion will not be the same. LOL.

Bwahahahaha, this was predicted long ago!

Remember that Xbots value propositions are different to everyone else's. This is a great deal for them. :D

Maybe we need a new price comparison table. Will post one as soon as we get the new ADD ON pricelist. :D

Actually they are. They're not forcing us to pay for it like Sony, they're letting us decide if we want it or not.

No, they're charging you the same price not to have it. If you want it you pay extra.

Ms is just playing catch up to Sony's well thought out, well planned, high quality console.

The 360 was rushed, poorly executed with low quality hardware and RROD after RROD people will still buy it..

/flame suit = on

If the soul purpose is only to watch movies, maybe.
If they are bringing games out in Blu-ray format then you are going to have problems because it will not be an option/extra anymore.

Please explain? I paid R1800 for my console a couple of years ago. If they wanted to add it back then, it would've been more.

The same with the PS3, if they released it without the BR, it would've been less.

And if you buy one now, it will cost you R2500.00. Prices of old should be left in the past. I don't really think the external BD Player will cost less than R1000.00. Thats R3500.00 for a Bluray player xbox with no HDD & no WIFI. "Value" will require a new definition afterwards.

I'm talking about right now. A 360 Elite costs about 3.5k That's without BD.
The PS3 slim with a 120Gb Hdd is less than 4k INCL BD. + Extra..

Less for more.

You're actually just proving my point. Even with current prices. I can now buy an Xbox 360 for R2500 instead of a PS3 for R4000. I don't need a big harddrive, I don't need Wifi, I don't need a BluRay player.

I get more or less the same gaming experience, so why do I need to pay for something I'm not using?

For now... Although there must be reason that M$ is releasing an addon bluray player and I don't really think it is just for BD Movies. Could be wrong. But if games on the xbox comes out in BD, then what?

Hang on, i thought MS was all for Digital Distribution via download, and that Blu-ray was not needed.

let me get this straight, first off MS said,

HDMI port is not needed
1080P is not needed
Blu-ray is not needed
Wireless is not needed
HDD is not needed.

Now all these extra features are now add-on's at a xtra cost.

The question is : who really has the true next gen console, straight out of the box.

Thats why I'm saying, rather bring out a new xbox model, call it xbox 720 or whatever with BlueRay support. Upgrading the existing one is going to cause problems

I think it's just for movies, I doubt MS will force millions of people to buy a BR player. If they do release games on BR, they'll probably release the same game on multiple dvd's as well.

Anyways, not something to worry about now.

But the fact is, if Sony had a cheaper PS3 (without Wifi, Harddrive, BR for example), they would sell a lot more PS3's. I definitely would've bought one, even if it was just to play Uncharted 1 & 2!

You are 100% correct! All of those features ARE NOT NEEDED. You can get the same gaming experience (for less), because you're not forced to pay for all of that.
