Xbox 360 to get Blu-ray?

It seems that Ballmer may have spoken out of turn, and when contacted about the issue, Microsoft’s PR spokespeople had this to say, “Our immediate solution for Blu-ray-quality video on an Xbox 360 is coming this fall with Zune Video and 1080p instant-on HD streaming. As far as our future plans are concerned, we're not ready to comment.”

I disagree with you, take both entry level launch consoles for example,

Sony has all the bells and whistles out the box, and the Xbox did not have any of those features i mentioned in my previous post, so the gaming experience is not the same, unless all you want to do with your console is play offline single player def jam icon, yip then the gaming experience would be the same between the 2 consoles, but lets be honest, thats not all we do with our consoles.

Ok, so let's take a "newish" game that's on both consoles, Batman. What gaming experience am I missing out on my console that I could get on the PS3?

Good question, it will be both the same if we both have the same setup, let me explain, eg:
with my playstation 3 i have digital out to 5.1 surround sound, HDMI output for video, a HDD for game add-ons and expansion packs, and a wireless controller with motion sensing.

Now if you have an Xbox arcade model, will you have the same experience as me and my setup?

Digital out to 5.1 surround - yup
HDMI - yup
HDD - n/a (don't even think there are any expansion packs for Batman?
Wireless Controller - yup

Glad to know I'm not losing out on a better gaming experience. :)

I'm also glad you not missing out on the batman gaming experience, we both win.:) but what about other games with expansion packs, and online play, do you have a wireless connection to a router/modem?
do you have a wireless headset?

For me these little things improve my gaming experience, maybe not for you personally.

What about the owners of the launch arcade system back in 2006, are they having the same experience as me and you?
 
Whats the difference between Sony forcing features down our throats that we might not ever need, but are faced to pay for, and multichoice forcing us to pay for channels that we dont want?

Back onto the Xbox needing a Bluray drive, how long do you think it will be before there are Blu-ray exclusive titles out? It all reminds me of that CD attachment they made for the Sega Megadrive.

I don't play online, but my Xbox is connected to the same wifi router that I use for my HTPC. Only use it for updates though. I did buy a secondhand harddrive a while ago, but I don't use expansion packs, so haven't really used it. I have the headset that came with the bundle, it plugs into your controller, so it's "kinda" wireless, since the controller is wireless. ;) But once again, I have 5.1 surround sound, so never used it.

The only thing I can really see that someone with a early release xbox will lose out on, is expansion packs, since they won't have a drive. But then again, how many people actually care about that, especially here in SA.

The difference is we don't have an alternative for DSTV, but there are for gaming consoles.

Nobody said anything about the Xbox 360 needing a BR, it's just a nice to have.

And from the article, it's just for movies, nothing was said about games.

You right, might not never need, one just has to look at the length of the new modern warfare 2 single player to see that dvd9 is good enough.:rolleyes:

It also depends on what you like to have sitting on your entertainment stand.
Personally, every time i walk into the lounge and see my PS3 on the shelve, i feel good.

Besides Sony did not force anything on me, i had a choice, the choice was Xbox 360 or a PS3, and opted for the PS3 first.

Ps, i also own a Xbox 360 pro (60gig)

With Final Fantasy XIII coming out, we will see how the DVD format will fair. We will see if newer games will demand more storage capacity. With NGS4 & UC2 taking up 25GB and over, a lot more game developers will follow suit.

M$ would like the xbox to make as much money as possible. Same with the PS3. That means keeping it in the market for as long as possible. Introducing a new console will require something much more to offer than the current gen console which means more R&D costs. This will probably be funded from profits from the xbox 360. For M$ to increase the longevity of the xbox 360, addons such as "Natal", "Bluray", "Wireless-N" have been introduce to keep up with its competition.
