Not really, I am glad for Xbox owners that they can also watch a bluRay movie in future from the Xbox, just at an extended price of course. It's just so funny how many Xbots claimed it would never be required and now it seems to be happening! No that I think they will ever own it.
Sony are the one that must be gloating as now the M$ coffers will extend their endeavors too.

Why do you think then Microsoft find it necessary to include a BluRay option in future? Sure for no reason at all! I mean you can still get the same video's on DVD not?
Necessary? its a rumour for christs sake, not confirmed

Future? Just a few days ago I watched Bolt in 1080p on my xbox, and i didnt spend R300 on a blu ray disc.

Idiotic comment. You watched in HD (Low bitrate ripped) nothing to do with real BluRay, running at 28MBPS, go educate yourself a bit about BluRay and HD film features and quality. Also about your Xbox specs.
Also watching a HD film without HD sound is like listening to a decent pre recorded live performance track on FM stereo. Try listening to it in 7.1 channel DTS master sound format and cum again!

Ouch! That's the main problem with blu ray devices. You can't just buy the player, you need the 1080p monitor/TV and the sound system/amp/sound card...

Must be pretty damn awesome.

And so..... I doubt you would be able to notice the difference, but then again you seem to be so anal about your blu ray specs you probably stand in front of your screen with a magnifying glass.

Just a quick question. Lets say you have a XBOX360, you get the option to add on a BluRay player for X amount? K? Why don't you just go and buy a BluRay player for your Home Theater System and experience the full dynamic sound and picture (if you have Full HD TV)? Why buy an add-on for you console if you can't play games on it?

I reckon just getting a stand alone blu-ray player will be the better option instead of getting the Xbox add on, but then again looking at this fanboy war and what the Xbox only owners think of blu-ray, the chances of them owning/wanting/playing/watching a blu-ray is very slim.

Some things never change in this thread.
I will be looking at the viability of the add on and compare it to a stand alone BD.
The biggest question we have is the future of the BD for MS gaming?
Will they make games in 2 versions DVD and BD? I am not so sure about that.
Will they release "Special Editions" of games with additional content?
Most probably.

You guys need to spend more time outside of these threads. :D

Lol... welcome back Kage, i see even you cant resist a "console" post everynow and then.

Who cares if the box gets a BR add-on?
Best games are still on the PS3....;)

The addon will definitely cost less than a standalone BD player. If the addon costs over R1000, then there will be something wrong with M$ marketing because most xbox owners will not buy that. Depends what M$ wants to do with the BD addon.

Off course, watching a DVD (BluRay in my case:D) on a console with PC stereo speakers is just .... well damn idiotic to say the least! Watching a ripped "HD" film, at reduced bitrate and sound capability, on a PC/console even more so!

Well I presume El cheapo's will always be .... well cheapskates, therefore most of the Xboxes sold was the arcade SKU.

Im not so sure about that. Look at the price of a Wifi dongle or 20gb hdd!

Its a proving fact that over time storage space and the need to hold more storage increases over time.... so its inevitable that the DVD will succumb to the BR format.
I'm sure the xbox will last as long as the PS2 did and M$ should rather bring out a new console next year and run it in parallel with the 360 as Sony has done with the ps1 and ps2 when they brought out new consoles.

What?
Regarding your BR vs DVD format.
If that was the case why has Dual Layer DVD's not replaced DVD?
DVD is not dead yet, and BR is still not mainstream enough.
Can anyone list a price of a PC BD Writer for me?

Why would XBox release another next gen console when their current console is competing with the PS3?

DVD's wont die... jus as cd's wont die... but in the nearby future dvd format will not be the mainstream format anymore... and besides.. when dvd's came out the dvd-writers were priced at bout 2-3k... and thats what i payed for one back then... so u cant compare a bd-writer to a dvd-writer...
