Xbox 360 to get Blu-ray?

DVD's wont die... jus as cd's wont die... but in the nearby future dvd format will not be the mainstream format anymore... and besides.. when dvd's came out the dvd-writers were priced at bout 2-3k... and thats what i payed for one back then... so u cant compare a bd-writer to a dvd-writer...

We have discussed this ad nauseum before on this forum.
The price is only a small factor regarding the popularity of an item.

I also bought my DVD writer at the R2K mark.
The same can be said for BD. The R2K price is the golden number.
That is the price where people consider buying it.
Once it becomes and accepted method of storing date for the above-average PC user, it will become mainstream.

The popularity growth of the BD is extremely slow.
There could be numerous reasons for this, price is possibly a factor.

Off course, watching a DVD (BluRay in my case:D) on a console with PC stereo speakers is just .... well damn idiotic to say the least! Watching a ripped "HD" film, at reduced bitrate and sound capability, on a PC/console even more so!

Alot of the divx rips come with 5.1. And though they are not bd quality, some are as good as dvd.

Well I presume El cheapo's will always be .... well cheapskates, therefore most of the Xboxes sold was the arcade SKU.
Shame, it must be so hard trying to convince your friends all the time that you only buy the most expensive things on the market, they must be pretty tired of the blu ray specs you spout everytime they see you.

Ah my favorite PS3 Fanboi Fan again! Just because you do not have a decent system with a BluRay player or even a standalone/PC unit does not mean you have to always butt in these discussions to show your jealousy!

You are in for a long haul as BluRay is here to stay and will stare you in the face every day. So except and live with it.

One if these days when you saved up some cash you can get a BluRay player for your arcade or/and maybe your expensive Microsoft Xbox "branded" wireless "N" adaptor for that matter and then may watch decent BD HD movies et al (without quality sound) and then can come talk/post some more sense on MyBB.

In the meantime I will enjoy my "ALL inclusive in a Box" Media center/Games console/BluRay player" while you upgrade for the next 5 -10 years from nothing to .... well still nothing.

Now live with it.

PS: Have you noticed? No more HDMI cable included?

Yeah! What is up with that? Bought a 250GB PS3 and didn't get a HDMI cable :( Guess they too are trying to save around every corner...

Never got one with the PS3 that was a main arguments against the PS3 by the Xbots, Yes a damn R50.00+ cable. Now Microdoft is doing the same with the "new" SKU to save costs. Giving the consumer more choices was their excuse.

I see it now: Next step, they will take away the controller. Sell the xbox arcade for R1000. "Ultimate choice" Marketing. Xbox Arcade comes out the box as a ready to use DVD player. If you want to play games, buy the controller. :p

Kind of like how the ps3 is now, bundle the worst controller ever designed and force people to buy third party so they can play for 10 mins without getting arthiritis

Maybe you just have some wierd hands. I played with the PS2 and the control is the same as the PS3. Yes it might be lighter than the heavy xbox controller. Also people with LARGER hands might struggle a bit. Its a matter of preference.

well you gotta admit the triggers are **** on the ps3, makes it almost impossible to free aim in GTA4.

I have never played with the xbox triggers so can't really say how they should feel. Making them bluetooth is definitely a plus!
its hard to explain but they stick out more and are more accurate when depressing them

I really don't understand this whole controller issue but for morew than 2 years & A LOT of hours put into my 60GB, my hands or the controller has never been a problem for me.

Maybe it's because I have not held any other controller besides a Sony one but to me there is nothing wrong with mine.

tHAT'S WHY THE xBOX GAMES DO NOT SCORE THE SAME mETACRITIC SCORES AS PS3 ARE GETTING, IT"S JUST TOO PISS POOR. (dAMN cAPS)

From what I've seen, the Xbox actually scores more? Some examples maybe?

It's just so funny how many Xbots claimed it would never be required and now it seems to be happening!

Why is it suddenly required? The article mentions it's a addon for watching HD movies. Nowhere have they ever mentioned anything about BR games.

I know it's difficult for PS3 owners to understand, but it's an addon. You can buy it if you want, but you don't need it to play games. Same as the wifi dongle every PS3 owner seems to be going on about?

Yeah! To actually tell which is better, you need to try both. Will wait for a friend to get the xbox and give that a try. For the meantime, my PS3 does it for me. SF4 is great with the PS controller! :)

Also watching a HD film without HD sound is like listening to a decent pre recorded live performance track on FM stereo. Try listening to it in 7.1 channel DTS master sound format and cum again!

Of course you can't really hear it - and you know it.

Plus, I think we've discussed the lack of titles offering all these HD sound formats
