Xbox 360 vs Playstation 3

Hey, I look on in awe at the Lamborghini Murcielago and fully appreciate that for it's probably worth every penny.

I still can't afford one. Bummer. ;)

Tell me doobiwan, if you had the cash, would you buy a Murcielago?

Lambo's price, fuel consumption and maintenance are bloody high. And its not quite an everyday car.

The Lambo has its drawbacks, but you'd say its worth it?

Hell I would buy one (Murcielago - Xbox), but I would most probably own a Porsche GTII (Wii) as well.... and a Ford Ka (PS3) :D

If you can afford them all get them all....

errrr - if you can afford one you don't have to worry about fuel and maintenance methinks...

LOL
If only the PS3 was the cheapest of the lot huh Gav ;)

Exactly. If you can afford to spend R6000 on the console, you're not going to worry about spending R400 for a controller. It all comes down to what you can afford.

Not the point I was trying to make, but it is another valid one, if you can afford a PS3 then games, new controllers and an HDTV shouldn't be a problem.

EDIT: Hehe, read my mind Retro

lol... good point, but think about it... the ps3 only real draw back is it's high prices and the non-rumble action that will soon be taken a way ;) . blu-ray WILL win, for three reasons:first there's more studio's that have climbed into bed with sony's blu-ray. second there's a bug number of ps3's and people are going to buy them as soul blu-ray players. third, there's more companies ready to go with sony and blu-ray, which means more people we get blu-ray players.

The funny thing is that sony haven't caught onto the idea that there consoles can be blu-ray players... i they were cleaver and sneaky they could have PS3
MEDIA UNITS THAT COME WITH A BIGGER HD AND A DVD REMOTE. they could disable the wifi and not supply wireless control to cut cost's... that way they will sell to a different group of people and score some sales.

That = bad idea, Sony are losing money on each console, hoping to make up with game profits (thats not working yet, btw)

They are planning on releasing a cheap (+-$300) Blu-ray player in the near future.

But if they were gonna do something like that, definitely dont disable WiFi, streaming media is massive nowadays, and the PS3 actually makes it very easy if you have a PSP, so maybe add more standards to it (imagine a PS3 streaming music to a Zune :p)

Well, depends on your point of view, personally I view the PS3's lack of compelling content it's second biggest drawback.

You're probably right. Frankly the HD DVD group hasn't done nearly enough to drive the brand into the market.

I think King Ken actually spoke about doing something like that, but he got nailed about it big time. I don't remember the exact details. I think the argument was something about "that's what $600 is supposed to buy you already".

@Supes - "having the money" and affording are quite different ;) If I "had the money" I wouldn't buy the Murcielago, but if I could afford it I would. I think that's fundamentally the issue with the PS3 as well.

I don't know why people still mention this. They lost money on every PS2 being sold as well. MS also lost money on every Xbox and 360 being sold when it was released. None of these companies plan on making any money in the first few months / years. It's a long term project, not a quick money making scheme.

It paid off for the PS2, I'm sure it will work again for the PS3.

It would be a bad idea to sell a piece of hardware at a loss as a media center. Since you don't buy games for a media center and therefore won't make your money back...

correct?

Thats true, I just mentioned it because its the main reason why the PS3 should not be sold as a BD player only. IF you bought a launch PS2, Sony lost $xx.xx and eventually made it up when you bought X games over the next 5 years. If you buy a PS3 they lose +-$200, and if you never buy a PS3 game, only BD's, its stays as a loss.

The PS2/Xbox/360 were never sold as DVD players only, they just happen to have had that functionality.

EDIT: LOL I must be typing slow today, everyones beating me to the punch

Hehe, I dont think I was very clear in my post, I was just saying that even though there are cheaper, possibly better alternatives (eg. Murcielago vs. 911) people will have their preferences. As yours is a Murcielago, mine is a F430 or Koenigsegg CCX

And no I'm not saying a PS3 is a Ferrari (as I previously have somewhere in these forums ;))

Exactly, for many people a Plasma / LCD is a waste of money. For others it's money well spent. Same with the PS3 and it's accessories.

I wouldn't quite use "a waste of money". I could be stinking rich and not find those things important. I'm not rich but will over extend myself for LCD tellies and gaming consoles even though I'm no big gamer. I am however a technology junkie of note and have quite a few toys that I really shouldn't have purchased due to money reasons.

i read on another forum that sony takes a little money on the blu-ray dvd's as they got the copy right or some crap on it... since they brought the blu-ray crap to life they sore a little some on crash. thus from the simple deduction... if they sell it as a media device they will score money on the blu-ray dvd's... win win

Yeah, didn't know about that, could work then, but rather just sell cheap BD players IMHO. Got a link?
