So I updated my codecs yesterday. I can now play most divx movies. I have noticed that about 15% of my movies are still unplayable. They are AVI, likely xvid or something. I didn't bother to check. They still do not work on my xbox.

Unlike the other videos, when I try to play these my xbox tells me that it can't play this content because it contains audio or video with an unsupported codec. Is it at all possible to get them to work other than converting them myself (this will take a reallllly long time).

I suspect that I am boned. :D Dammit I should have bought a PS3. ;)

Edit: I think that it may in fact not be a CODEC issue but a resolution issue ... I think some of the resolutions may be too big for the xbox?

It may be that the audio and video codecs used are incompatible with the xbox's container support. I know that a similar issue exists with the PS3 where audio and video codec combinations work in one container, but not in another.

Try and re-mux into a different container (this shouldn't take long at all).

What are you using to stream... when I get that error I just stream the media in Tversity. That normally does the trick.

The problem is that the stream quality is average. For high quality streaming you need a fairly high end CPU.

I usually just re-encode them myself using VirtualDUB. It only takes about 30 minutes or so for a 700MB movie.

Just follow from the section "Selecting the Compression". It's very simple.

it should play xvid, in the actual files could have an error that prevents the xbox from readinf it, try a tool i use called divxfixx++ then retest the file,

Thanks guys. I am going to try all of these suggestions when I get home ... actually wait. lol, I will have to wait till the weekend. I gave my computer to my brother. Maybe I can find software for the Mac that can do this (I still have a macbook).
