Xbox console replacement question

Probably ... but not ethical.

That along with warranty fraud (gut swapping and replacing the manufacturer warranty sticker) isn't something I condone

But modding xbox360's to play copies is ethical?

You cannot cover every fault, it's not viable. That is why every console system has a standard 12 month warranty.

Microsoft's extended manufacturer warranty for 2 of the biggest out of warranty faults of the platform is a first for the industry. A pity the other manufacturers couldn't be bothered.

Not that I complain ... allows me to make a decent living :o

The conundrum is this: if Microsoft makes very little money on the consoles (which is more than Sony's apparent loss) and expects ROI by selling games then to not replace the console will end up causing the company to have a lower profit margin.

I would do it for LAN play, I refuse to pay R1600 just to be able to play any network game with a buddy in my own house. I think of it like a TV license - one per household :p

Hey I have no problem with being unethical. MS jewed me badly ito xbox360 so **** them.

I just hate it when people take the "moral highground" on the forums but practise something else.

Can she make it RROD ... ?

Probably ... but not ethical

She's a light away ;)

To the OP : keep it well ventilated, do not do anything that was cause more heat, such as covering the air ducts , keeping it in a small enclosed space or leaving it on and unattended for long period of times.

If you were asking this at the beginning of the year, I'd say rather go with the Arcade as it'd have a higher chance of being a Jasper (more Arcades are sold, thus faster turnover, thus better chance of having a new machine). The Jaspers are the newer model XBox 360's, which have been shown to have a much lower failure rate.

In the end it comes down to whether you need the hard drive or not. If not, go Arcade, otherwise, get Pro/Elite.

You might consider sending it in to maestro; could work out much cheaper.

or... wrap it in a towel and get an extra red light, 3 red lights means you can fill in the powercare form and then someone will come to your door free and give you a replacement box and take your busted one away.... for free!

It's a service that I charge for. You can do it yourself of course for free.

There are various kinds of modding, and giving the console the ability to play backup games is one of the services I offer.

I've given my viewpoint on that matter several times before so won't speak about it again.

Ethical ... probably not. Illegal ... definitely not.

Warranty fraud by doing the towel trick on a console that didn't originally have RROD/E74, gut swapping a bricked console with a new console so that you can get your money back or a new one, putting on a new warranty sticker when you broke the seal to get a swap out are all unethical and illegal for that matter.

So my point is fair!

I am getting an Elite on Saturday for R2999. If that thing breaks on me I WILL 'Towel Trick' it. Pure and simple. It sucks that PS3 have everything for free and local support yet we pay for LIVE and don't have local support yet it ****ing breaks the whole time.

Screw them... I will towel that son of a bitch.

I agree with Maestro, its your hardware, which you bought and own. You are perfectly entitled to do with it what you will.

However, if you being pirating games, that is a different kettle of fish and another discussion in itself.

I don't deny that the vast majority of the clients that have their consoles modified for backup games use it for pirating ... which is their choice.

I myself modify consoles (my own or bought on the cheap) to install alternative OS's, emulators and a host of other functionality that allows you to gain access to the kernel of tech that the manufacturers hold dear.

In fact, just modified my NTSC-J Wii by converting it to PAL, as I was tired of having to import Japanese released titles in a language I barely understand. Next on the agenda is media playback (DVD and AVI) and allot more in the way of home brew.

Also have a 1st generation Xbox 360 (Xenon) that still runs to experiment with the home brew scene that is developing. Hopefully I have some time in my upcoming holiday to mess around with the kernel :D

Just buy a new xbox . The new models are problem free. The elite is going for R2999 at incredible.

I don't see why people should just run out and buy a new console every time one breaks. MS must love you, the perfect consumer.

They should replace it, it's the right thing to do.

If you send an appliance of any kind in repeatedly for the same repair for what is a defect in the design and they cannot get it working properly demand a replacement. You shouldn't settle for anything less.

So I gave in & accepted my fate of having to pay R930 for a swap out. Disconnected the XBox to get the serial number, plugged it back & to get a RROD, never thought I'd ever be glad to see it

but now I have a disc in the tray, how do I get it out?

edit: think I've got it sorted, thx
