Xbox Live! help please.

That is a bit steep for a 120GB. Get a DS or something, how much is their 512MB MU?

As for live - that sub should be fine - The 360 has an autosensing port so you can use a normal or crossover cable.
.... the 512 MU is like R800 odd so I thought fsckit, a 20gb HDD will suit me fine. And normal cables+crossover cable talk .... right over my head bru :o:D

Just spend the voucher on an elite console and sell ur arcade
... too many other things to buy :D

few last things too .... and the hour is late and I'm feeling lazy (:p) but

1) what am I looking at using bandwidth wise per hour?
2) is it simply plug in the ethernet cable and you're online? no security issues like on a PC?

you have to open a few ports on your router for xbox live to work efficiently ! Bandwidth usage depends on the game but a game like halo uses about 60-70 megs per hour and other games like forza would use round about 80-100 it vary's honestly because a few weeks ago i played virtua fighter online for almost 2 hours and it only used about 40 megs !

really ....... see, didn't know that :o

It may not be necessary to do it manually, if your Router supports UPnP, which it should, it should detect and configure itself automagically.

ETHERNET CABLE 101 - typical cables are designed to go from hub to PC and the connections are wired in a specific order, if you plug a "hub" plug into a PC it's the wrong way round, hence the need for a X-over cable to go from PC to PC.

But that's old school. A while ago a smart ass figured how to get the port to sense and switch automatically making different cables redundant, hence "auto-sensing".

As most of you know, the new XBOX 360 Dashboard was released today. If you don't have a HDD you wont be able to install the update, as it's to big to fit on a 256MB Memory Card. It's not actually do big, but with all your other game saves and stuff it simple won't be enough. And besides, the new dashboard allows you to copy the game to the HDD, and playing the game from there, making the game load much faster and giving you dvdrom a longer lifespan.

So, my 2c, get a HDD. If you dont want to pay R1100 for a 20GB HDD then buy a Western Digital 2"5 Scorpio 120GB BEVS HDD for R650 and use the hack to format it as a microsoft drive. That way you pay only R650 for a 120GB HDD. It works great, I'm making use of this hack :)

Thanks for all the help chaps ..... definitely did help ;)

FaNIX - I am going to get that 20gb HDD .... :D

How hard is it to get this to work and do you need to mod the xbox in any way?

you'll need an official hard disk casing and replace the original drive and u'll need software like xplorer 360 or some other cloning software that can read xfat

One more thing I've thought of to ask is ..... when I connect to the net on the PC, I click on my connection icon, it brings up box, I say connect and it verifies me and I'm connected right. So, how is this gonna work for when I connect using just the Xbox?

If you're connecting the 360 to the PC via ICS (which I presume you'll have to with that setup) you'll have to instantiate the connection first.

If I'm not mistaken there is an option under ICS to allow external applications (ie the 360) to start the connection as well, but it's off by default.

Man that sucks .... I wanted the Xbox to have an independent connection because of firewalls, anti-virus, etc issues :(

Is there any chance that you could elaborate bru? I have a 4port router and I only see ICS related stuffs for an internal modem or a USB one.

ICS is pretty simple to set up to dial automatically.

From network connections, go to the properties of the connection that you want to dial. Then go to the Advanced tab. In the ICS box tick the first two options to enable sharing and allow other computers on the network to dial the connection. Then you need to configure an IP for the LAN connection which your 360 uses. This IP will be the default gateway that you set on the 360 (I use 192.168.0.1).

That's about it. Now when your 360 signs into your profile and attempts to connect to Live, it will dial that connection and use it.

You'd probably have to run the router in bridge mode to dial a connection.

Thanks for the input bru .... thankfully, I have heard about just using Routed/ing mode instead of bridged which I'm using now (big up doobs). So looks like problem solved :D
