Xbox One - To import or to wait...

Just a question, I would like to ask the view of the console community would it be worth while to import the Xbox One now or should we wait to get it in SA.

I have not had a console to start of with. I'm now in the market of getting one. The PS4 looks nice but I would rather want to have the Xbox One due to the Media rich environment MS has created or so the reviews are going on about that. My main goal is not games but more to the Media viewing side of it but as a bonus would like to eventually play a game or to on it.

I have read that some user has imported theirs but I have not seen a thread with them having to deal with issues apart from the Power cable issue.

please share your thoughts?
 
I would wait personally, at least you will get full support locally if something does go wrong. Cheaper electronics I don't mind importing, but for something costing close to R8,000 I would rather deal with problems locally than internationally.

Import. The games are region free.

By saying you want it more cause of the media capabilities and consider playing games as an afterthought you sound like the exact person Microsoft was marketing the One towards. :p

If you really think the Media features will work with DSTV I've got news for you.

All the media features are US specific. Not even people in the UK will get the same experience as those in the US.
My advice, get a PS4.
 
As revealed by another poster, you are in for a nasty surprise if you are going for the media features. They arn't going to work here, they arn't even going to work in Europe. Essentially you're paying ~R1000 more for features you'll never be able to use.

Forget the "console wars" mentality, PS4 is the smarter choice for those of us outside the USA, it isn't even an argument at this point.

M$ will eventually remedies these issues and that too you it's not going to be anytime soon. So wait if you really want the XB1

Fat chance. By the time they think of Xbox One support for SA the Xbox Three will be out.

Huh? Why? For games, they are pretty much the same, but the Xbox has Kinect, Skype etc. For only R1000 more.
And the PS4's media features won't work here as well

So waste the R1000? The PS4 also has a camera which is optional.

That R1000 can be put towards more games or an extra controller.

Plus you don't need to pay for PSN to get the right to use Netflix on your console. Unlike the XBone.

I would rather have the option to purchase depending on my requirements, rather than have everything forced on me. It's a formula that worked with the X360.
 
To get you going, why not get a PC Box that can handle your media & gaming and if you really see yourself wanting something more console based (an exclusive AAA title GOTY edition) then switch over.

Both consoles serve for having media to read and would be stupid not too. DLNA and other features are coming to both systems, they haven't been out for more than 2 months.

Give it time :).
 
having used the xbox one for about 3 weeks now i'd say it's worth getting. You can set your regional details to the US even if you use an SA credit card, so you can rent/buy movies if you want.
You DO need a decent ADSL line though ( i have mweb 4 meg premium uncapped, which works fine) cause without internet it's frustrating to use.
The kinect is an amazing piece of hardware/software, whether it's worth the $100 extra is debatable but i think it is. It logs you in automatically based on facial recognition, and does motion tracking when you're on skype so you can walk around the room and it stays zoomed in on your face....

Each to their own. The PS4 just seems like it offers less
 
Thank you for all these replies... much appreciated and I think that there is still a lot all the console developers should still consider.

Currently I have my Roku 3 that has Netflix and Hulu, DSTV is not for me since sport is not my issue, I would like to keep that but add the functionality of playing games, Skype-ing for me is very cool and the cam following you in the room is gimmicky and I love it... the fact is that I do a lot of streaming.. a lot, like 300 GB last month streaming, okay it was over December. Axxess Even "Managed"/throttled my account by the 6th of the month. and thats just streaming... I would like to keep that. and the ability to play games, I had a PC doing this job but don't feel like having to get the remote to access Hulu through the browser on the TV... AKA LAZY. I bought the Remote thing and its cool bu the text is too small and and and I really don't want a Computer by the TV.

I was just scared of the incompatibility with the usage of Hulu and so on on the Xbox, and if you wait for the SA version these things would not be able to add it on.
