I know this must be an oppinion based thing by now, and that this is a little late, but I am planning on getting one of these, but have no idea which is the best. Oppinions people :D So far I am pro-Xbox 360, but now which one, I know there is the Elite, the Halo 3 edition .....

Oh, please lets not do this again! There are hundreds of opinions already!

OK OK, let's say I decide on the X-Box 360, which one, I know the elite has HD, but don't really know what else makes it more worth while. Are there any main Differences between PS3 and Xbox. Facts based. ?

I would would go for the blond if I were you:D

Its all about what games you want to play...

Nothing more anymore.
Pick the console with the games that appeal to you.

Xbox 360 has much more games, better graphics
The PS3 has a blu-ray for HD movies
and both have cool multimedia stuff

BuT, the Xbox is cheaper

If you want to play online get the Xbox otherwise they are basically the same with a few exclusives seperating the two.

I have the Xbox and it is the best thing in my house.

Haha, you being serious, or did we try and get an early start to flamebait friday?

Ultimately the two consoles are virtually identical, with IMO the ps3 lending itself better to the future.
Ultimately it comes down to games, if you want generic shooters get the xbox ;) If you want classics like Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo or Final Fantasy then get the PS3!

Wow... this could turn into serious flame wars...

abev, there is nothing special about those games you're mentioning.. they're just sequels. and generic shooters on the xbox? is that what you call Gears?

I seriously don't understand why there still needs to be a console war. All 3 of the consoles target different audiences. Just pick the one that'll best fit your needs.

Wii - Party games and Nintendo exclusives.
PS3 - Media machine. Has a Blueray player.
360 - Testosterone filled fratboys' dream.

If you're going for a 360 the best value for money is definitely a Pro bundle. It has everything you could want for the 360 in the box. The Elite differ only in colour (black) and HDD size, it's 120Gb, and it has an HDMI cable in the box.

As far as the pro goes, There are a lot of different bundles available
1. Pro + halo @ R3799
2. Pro + AAA game (PES08, Forza or Halo) + extra wireless controller @R4000
3. Pro + 4 games (Forza 2, Viva Pinata, Fifa 08, WWE 08) @ R4000

Chose a bundle depending on your gaming preferences. Chose the Elite if you're really keen on big downloadable content like demo's, Xbox Originals, MMO's and possibly in the not to distant future, movies.

As far as vs the PS3 goes, there's about 400 thread you can look through to revisit the flame war, but I'll summarise it all in one little point: Games.
@EtienneK - nice summary

Prices/features/performance - the balance between the two are pretty much a wash, look at the games catalogues, both released and forthcoming and chose the console with the games you want to play. My breakdown on that is:

The 360 has the widest, deepest and highest quality selection of games, both exclusive and multiplatform. It's also the primary development platform for most multiplatform games which up till now has been evident in the 360 version of most games being slightly better. This may or may not change. Due to its heritage it also has a lot more PC style games. It's also the choice platform for small independant developers because of Live Arcade and XNA.

The PS3 on the other hand has its own unique catalogue with it own big budget exclusives. While there is often a difference with multiplatform games, it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

If you want to see an indication of what to expect for the next year at least, have a look at this thread:

The other little thing to factor in between the two is the online service, and while Live! may be a little bit of a hassle at the moment, it stands head and shoulders above the competition, in content (Arcade, demo's, betas, Xbox 0riginals etc, non of which require gold), features & active community. It's a bit like comparing a couple of Corner Cafes, with a PicknPay Hypermarket.

Nothing special? Those are some of the most hyped and celebrated games in history! And granted yes, Gears is a great title!

Doobi you have too much time on your hands dude ;)

The only thing I didnt like about your post was

I dont believe that at all, PSN network is free which for me makes it better than LIVE anyday. In terms of content the PSN is not as far behind as you make out and it does offer the best game out of the two services (Warhawk).

@Abe,

Yeah, I get tired of typing '{', '&', "<!--" and ":"'s all day and need to vent in English ;)

On your point - Free usually isn't better. You can get a free house from the government, but I'd rather have the one I've bought thanks. You get what you pay for.

PSN, "not as far behind" is pushing it a bit don't you think? It's got 27 available games and a handful of demo's compared to demo's for almost every title available on 360 and over 100 XBLA games. Where XBLA is releasing 1-2 games a week, PSN is lucky to see that a month. Then there's "Xbox Originals" launching in 2 weeks, the demo's, the music videos, and hopefully in the not to distant future, video on demand. All of which is available on a free Silver account.

To site Warhawk is also to completely miss the point. Warhawk is a retail title, at retail price, made available via download, which is nice, but it's not "pick up and play". For that I'd site something like Undertow which is 50Mb, $10, 16 player multiplayer, and while only 2.5D has game depth almost comparable to warhawk.
