when i hook my xbox up to the tv in the lounge (samsung 74cm +-3yrs old), i have to change the xbox settings from pal 50 to pal 60 for some games (as some games - imported ones only will only play on pal 60) and when doing this, the quality of the gfx drop and there is black bar, about 4cm thick at the bottom of the screen

i'm using the red, white, yellow connectors (unsure what you call them) and connect them through the dvd recorder

anyway i can fix the gfx problem on pal 60?

don't go through the dvd recorder .......... that's your probably suspect for the black bar.

the tv is in one of those big wall units, so its real hard to connect xbox to the tv directly....

......and should that be a problem, as the only time the issue arises is when i have to change to pal 60

Set the Cable to SD then go into the settings. Never done it myself, just a though.

What doobi is trying to say, is on the 'AV' plug connected to the back of your xbox, theres a small switch that says TV or HDTV, set it on TV.

As for your cable issues (with the red, yellow and white plugs), connect those into the color corresponding ports at the back of your tv, depending on how many 'sets' of red, yellow, white ports it has determines how many AV Channels you have. If theres only 1 set at the back, which are already being used, you'll need to unplug them.

most older tv's only have yellow+red or yellow+white ........ doesn't make a diff though.

I've just been ogling the 40" Sony bravia myself. :)
They're having a tech expo near work, selling it for R15k

dude don't bite!

I saw a circular yesterday, I think it's Makro, has a 40" Sony Bravia 720p for R9999.

EDIT: alf, tell me you don't work at a rather large insurance company in Pinelands ... ?

It is makro doing the expo here. This one is 1920 x whatever resolution.
Dude says the cheaper one has much lower res.
Sorry, not too clued up on the terms - long time tube tv user here.

Not buying yet, waiting for november.

Yeah, I've seen the same expo ;)

The thing is a matter of perspective. And distance. The common agreement is that at TV watching distance of around 6 feet, the difference between 720p and 1080p only become apparent once you hit around 50".

:):) So many things to think about when buying the LCD / Plasma TV's.
And the old tube one seems to still have the best pic for actual tv.

Seems that the 40" one has everything u need - HDMI, good for xbox, movies, sports and tv.
Viewing distance supposed to be good from 6 meters. I'm about 4 meters away from my tv,

I have a 32" Samsung R81 (Bordeaux) - wonderful picture quality, especially at the distance I sit from it (around 4-5m). Use it for XBOX (not so much these days, sadly), TV and DVDs. Picked it up for about R9000 around 18 months ago and I still don't have a wee bit of regret...

i'll have to start saving so i can have my tv before xmas....

....tsk, tsk it wont sort my xbox issues for now then
