Xbox Series X / S

Was bound to happen, the games mentioned are all (from what I understand) day 1 releases on GamePass...

Next is most probably an increase in the GamePass sub OR is the games price increase geared to make people join GamePass than pay the extra $10 for a standalone game

Microsoft increasing prices of new first-party Series X|S games

Thank you all for the feedback to my X vs S question. Some conflicting views but I reckon I'll just fork out the extra and pay for the X.

Will I see a difference in visuals if my TV has a 60hz refresh rate?

Yes, the refresh rate is how fast the screen updates with a new image, not so much about the quality of said image. You feel refresh rate more than you see it.

Definitely. There's still a huge difference in pixels.

Like in NFS Unbound for example. Digital Foundry mentioned that it averages 3840x2160p on the Series X versus 2304x1296p on the Series S (both 60fps).
Might not sound very different, but that's 8 294 400 pixels vs 2 985 984 pixels, which means the Series S is barely pushing 36% of the pixels that the Series X can.

120Hz refresh rate TVs are nice and all that, but you will not see big benefits much longer as most games are now starting to trend towards 60FPS and 30FPS as things get more intensive.
Like NFS Unbound and A Plague Tale Requiem, neither are close to 120FPS (60fps at 2160p and 30fps at 1440p respectively) so your experience on a 60Hz TV is similar to that of a 120Hz TV.

120hz TVs do however have VRR, which can make a difference, where you can break out of a locked 60FPS

So it might be 60hz = 60FPS 100% of the time
while 120hz = 60FPS-120FPS depending on the scene

I thought fortnite looked a hell of lot better on my series x when season 4 started even the chests and that aora around them are stunning.

Seems like the deal is about to close. Getting buy-in from Nintendo and Steam is huge, it shows that Sony is just being full of schit.

If Sony doesn't take their 10 year deal now, they may end up with nothing...

Microsoft did say the deal would be finialized by mid 2023, makes sense that they would have plans already in place for when the deal goes through.

But this is rather funny that they are concentrating on business while the regulators and lawyers are still having their battle royal

This plays into their legal argument with the regulators.

They can now say that they have commitment from Nintendo and Steam, so Sony's argument about competitiveness falls flat.

If Sony accepts the deal, they admit defeat. If they don't, they may end up with nothing. They're basically screwed...

There is no way MS is taking CoD from PS, that would be a very bad business move to destroy and alienate their biggest install base

Yes in the sort term, but when CoD players realise that the yearly purchase they make is free on GP, many will start to migrate over to Xbox.

The install base has migrated before, they'll do it again. Most COD players used to be on Xbox.

The thing about the COD guys is they don't care about platform. They care about where they can get the most stuff. Sony started offering exclusive content which caused the initial migration.

If COD ends up on Game Pass, those guys will move back to Xbox, which is what MS wants. Nothing beats free, and they won't be getting any more exclusive content, so there's no reason to stay on PS. Why make money on your competitors platform when you can make it on your own?

I doubt that, maybe people that only play CoD and nothing else. Look at War Zone, it's free on all platforms but the most players are still on PS. Some will switch over no doubt, but again...MS would be stupid to make it a GP exclusive game, they can make more money by having it on all platforms.

But it won't be GP exclusive, it might just be everyone except Sony. The ball is in Sony's court really. If they don't accept the deal, they'll get blamed for it not being on PS. You underestimate the dedication of many COD players...
