This plays into their legal argument with the regulators.
They can now say that they have commitment from Nintendo and Steam, so Sony's argument about competitiveness falls flat.
If Sony accepts the deal, they admit defeat. If they don't, they may end up with nothing. They're basically screwed...
There is a crazy number of dudes who buy a console just for CoD and FIFA.
That's the whole point why Sony find themselves in a predicament. The ball is in their court. People will be pissed at them and not MS...Probably, but I'm trying to see it from Phil Spencer's point of view. MS wants to make money, and immediately pissing off a huge number of players doesn't seem like a good first step. It's also a PR or regulatory nightmare - after all he constantly talks about game exclusivity being bad and making games 'for all people on all platforms' yadayada, and as such I think CoD will remain on PS just as it did before. But I could of course be wrong

People who buy a console for the entire library would see it that way. COD players don't care about platform.MS are the ones buying Activision Blizzard, which introduces the threat of it being removed from PS in the first place. I don't think people are really mad at Sony here. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I also understand that Sony can't really just say nothing, if the situation was reversed MS would be doing the same.
But they have cleverly outdone them with the deals on Nintendo and Steam, so let's see what Sony does.
To be clear I agree that CoD is never leaving PS, I just think that it being on GP is going to sting badly.
After this MS would have spent almost as much on acquisitions as what the entire Sony is worth, I wonder why they didn't just buy SonyYea could be, I think Sony pretty much confirmed this as well. I’m conflicted, on one hand I can’t stand Sony’s shenanigans but on the other they can’t really compete with the behemoth that is MS when it comes to spending money, so I kinda feel sorry for them![]()
And neither should Micro transactions.Exclusivity should never have been allowed in the industry from the start...
