Xbox Series X / S

My snack of choice until the competition ends is Pringles. You may actually hear my scream if I win an XSX. I've won a couple prizes over the years, including a pair of Beats Solo3 from Coke. So hoping the Xbox gods will be smiling upon me

Would love to get one but probably only next year sometime. Using credit to get one would be a tad irresponsible.

Checking out videos on YouTube and apparently the cards are like $30 - $40 more than the new SSD cards for PC, so not that much more expensive... Think it was a Lew Later clip.

Thing is you can use a standard USB 3 external drive to store your game library then transfer to the internal SSD when you want to play it, so you don't need to buy that SSD

I feel your pain, same boat. I recently bought an Inverter and automated my house ala Sonoff and Raspberry pi's. So Minister of finance is watching my every move...

The One X is not more powerful than the Series S, so no. Limitations include: a much slower cpu, a hard disc drive too slow for the DirectStorage API meaning textures cannot be streamed into gpu memory in real-time. These are the things that make the Series S next-gen. The only way the One X is ahead of the Series S is in the fact that it renders games in 4K which requires more video memory.

Surely there are going to be cheaper storage devices ? Does it have to be Xbox only or can it take universal storage cards ?

Buying that for series S then might as well get the series X

I think someone else mentioned that you can use any external drive but you will have to transfer next-gen games to the SSD before you play. Also, Series S games will take up less space than Series X games because you won't have to download 4K textures.

Awesome, was wondering about space and storage on the smaller series S. Look at game likes RDR2 and Cyberpunk ! massive downloads when it comes to game size etc. But I guess that's the way things are going with the AAA games.

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm also a little worried, although I read a really technical explanation about why being able to stream assets in from the fast SSDs means that games will actually not be so huge. I'll need to read it again to understand it properly though, lol.

That's the price of 1TB Pcie Gen 4 NVME m.2 so not a bad price, as the Tech mature I do believe it will get cheaper.

From what I been reading you will only be able to play games stored on that card and internal memory nothing else. You can move a game to a normal USB External and move it back to play no problem.

Also saw that next gen games are a lot smaller than current as they do not have to store game assists multiple places on the media to speed up access. With current Console games being 200+ GB that 512GB or even 850 is nothing

The real question I have is how big a normal game gonna be, are they shrinking to PC sizes (50-100GB per game) or are they shrinking to less than that, as most PC assist normally sit in compressed Zip "Lockers".

If I can store 5-10 games on a Series S then I am cool with it. If I can only store 2-4, then I rather go for Series X even if I don't need the extra horse power for 1080p TV screen.

Been thinking of moving my primary platform from PC to XB now that XB can run 60 frames consistently. Also, I really like how XB supports 1440p. I have a 1440p HDR PC setup and 4k HDR option on TV. Best of both worlds. Decisions. Decisions.
 
Think my mind is pretty much made up.
Will start next gen with the Series S.
Hopefully some attractive deals soon.

Was initially leading towards ps5.
It seems games will become even more expensive going forward. Plan is to access the cross platform titles on gamepass. Savings on games should easily make up for me getting an "extra" console.

Once ps5 has built up a nice range of exclusives (and discounted them) and there's some relief on ps5 pricing, will pick one up.

This works for me because I have no problem playing at 1440p and I don't need to play games on launch.

Pity the X Cloud thingy is not available here as yet.

I'd defo need to try it out first, got to get a feel for it first before buying

although I love my elite controller, one of the best controllers I ever used was the Nintendo Switch Pro controller... wow simply perfect in every aspect. Pitty I can't use it for the Xbox :(
