Xbox Series X / S

I am going to speak for what appears to be the minority.

I didn't enjoy the first hell blade at all. Bought it on steam when it was on special years ago. Played a big chunk of it. Had enough of the dull gameplay and sometimes frustrating puzzles.

Got my Xbox and gamepass and heard that the second one was being developed, so I started again. It felt like a tedious walking simulator, and walking simulators are my jam.

When people praised the first game as the best thing since sliced bread, I always think to myself "wtf, what am I missing".

Let's be honest here. It had good audio design, and it was a tech demo for faces. They really milked the face stuff because almost every demo or showcase had Melina (the senua chick) doing some form of facial expression tech demo. Even for the second game.

That is simply not enough to make a game.

When I sub to gamepass again (waiting for Indiana yo), I will give it a go, because digital foundry had lots of praise for it looks wise.

But yeah, that first game was bad. And I will stand on that hill alone LOL. And I will go into the second game with VERY low expectations.

I would argue you are the defacto mainstream majority and this is the case for most people who didn’t get it.

I think it’s one of the best games of all time.

It’s a simple, short, to the point experience that knocks it out of the park for everything it does do and simply doesn’t bother with anything it can’t.

Out of interest what did you think of Death Stranding?

Loved Death Stranding. I started it off unsure, but afterwards got quite involved with being a human courier. And the story was simply amazing.

Perhaps you are right, I did not get Hellblade at all. It's probably just not for me. But one day I will try the new one.

I suspected as much.

I utterly despised it (as a huge Kojima fan) for having absolutely no respect for my time.

It could have been a 10 hour romp and gotten exactly the same message across.

Expected that, the money maker is all the cosmetic crap and the game itself will be full price on PS...
Most probably going to have that early access like with Starfield, so besides the full price PS money theres that as well on the Xbox side.

And correct me if I'm wrong a Nintendo version also at some point?

I would think a jump in subs is incoming and a GamePass price increase as well?

will it have a Multiplayer Campaign?

What do you guys think the best Xbox Series S deal is right now?

It seems only the console is about R6999 - but the bundles at R7999 are better value?

I guess this? I don’t need the controller - but it’s the same price without

I have a series s. Great console love it. Storage is a problem like big problem.

What I can recommend. The the console as cheap as possible even second hand maybe like R4000 max so you have the extra 3k for the 1tb expansion card.

I see there is a 1TB black version - but then it’s pricing is creeping to Series C or PS5

I haven’t seen any second hand at the price. I’ve seen a few used at Cash Converters - but so much risk in buying used

Valid points.

The series s only has 365GB or so usable storage.

That isn't much if you plan to add games like Forza, COD, Assassins Creed so you are going to need more storage.

You can save series x|s version of games on an external hdd but they don't play from there so you would need to move them to the internal drive to play them. This is what I'm currently doing. I got a 4TB external from amazon.co.za for a decent price and all my xbox one games go there and overflow of my series version games.

When I want to play them, I just copy them over to internal drive. It's a bit of a tedious process sometimes especially if you just want to switch on and game but it is what it is. The expansion card is very expensive, and I won't be paying the same price as a GPU for it.

Series S is only good for 1 thing. To play PlayStation & Nintendo games on it :D

Series S + Storage expanded Card = Series X price.

Exactly these expansion cards are just too expensive. I actually hate xbox for it. They didn't have to do that to us.

That said the series s is decent if you get a decent deal like the second hand one I posted. It's the best budget next gen console that can play most next gen titles at 60 fps.

Actually for the power it draws and how it can actually play games, it's pretty decent. The Series S draws 75w of power at full tilt, the Series X is almost 3 times that power draw. So yeah Series S running on a portable power station with a small 1080p TV will last ages.

Black edition would be a better option then. Cause the storage suck on Series S White. Then again I am coming at this as a well-established hoarder so take that comment with a pinch of salt :D

Remember a lot of One games will work on a normal usb drive, only the Enhanced games will need the SSD and on the Series S it's not as many. Plus the games are actually smaller on the S, tested it some games come in at maybe 2/3s the size.

I still use my Series S thank you very much - currently playing through the Halo series (co-op with a buddy) and recently finished Prince of Persia on it.

Also, got tired of mediating between the kids on the Series X (they keep bickering about their games being uninstalled) and pulled the trigger on

Edit: and yes, the WD equivalent imported via Amazon.com would have been R500 cheaper but the bickering reached epic levels today and I can't take another two weeks of it - this arrives on Thursday
