Hi,I need to upgrade my crappy monitor and I have 2 options.(Monitor or TV)

Basically the choice is bettween a 19inch wide screen monitor(R1700)......using a vga cable for the connection and plugging the output sound cables from the xbox into the input of my PC(mic input) so I could use my pc 2.1 speakers.

The other option is a 74cm LG SLIM LINE CRT TV(NOT LCD)....Ive played on the TV before and it has component inputs + stereo sound, etc.Picture quality is awsome but a TV is bulky.Goes for roughly R2500.

Will the LCD have a much better picture quality than the TV?
Ive never played on an LCD before.

Also like I said the LG has component inputs so te quality is very excelent and BIG compared to a 19inch but its going to cost almost R1000 more for the TV,which I will only be using for games.Which 1 will be better?

Lastetly Ive read that when you using the VGA cable, you cant play games that is 50htz?????Will setting the xbox to 60htz solve this problem??

Monitor = HD, CRT = SD. There is no question if those are your options - go for the monitor & spend the extra money on doing something about your sound setup.

+1

The image you'll get on the LCD is going to be a lot sharper than what you'll experience on the TV, even though it's going to be slightly smaller. Also, most XBOX games are designed to work on a widescreen (16:9) display, so you might experience letterboxing (black horizontal fillings) around your image.

If you have the option, try upgrading the 19" to a 22" by spending the extra R800 on a monitor, rather than a sound setup. It'll be worth it.

If the TV is R2500 ...... spend R2000 on a 22" LCD, get the xbox VGA cable thingy or the HDMI one and you're A for away.

Nah, I'm just really not the type to enjoy mucking about ..... I just want to plug it in and play, no mess no fuss.

Okay so Ill get the 19inch.
BTW the LG tv was widescreen so didn't get letter boxing effect.

The other question was regarding the 50htz problem.....You can only play games that are 60htz using the VGA cable. Is this true?

Ill be using a VGA cable, dont know about the other cables. Can someone explain the HDMI VS VGA VS COMPONENT,ETC and does all monitors support HDMI?My work monitor is a Samsung 19inch wide screen and only has a VGA and a DVI input.

I also want to just PLUG N PLAY....will this be possible with the VGA cable.

Might buy a cable from these guys: http://www.hdcabling.co.za/wii-xbox-ps3-firewire-c-26.html

+1 if it's in budget.

A monitor needs to support HDMI specifically, not all do. Personally I'd recommend you stick to using a VGA cable - the output is pretty much identical to the human eye, but it takes a bit of voodoo to hook up 5.1 sound with HDMI, unless you have an Elite.

oooh oooh! and for sound get one of those boxy thingies...

this way you dont need to use your pc :)

PS: these thingies come with some sets of logitech speakers, like the x-530's i got, so ask any of your buddies with a pair of these and "borrow" his boxy

Can I play 50htz games using the VGA cable?
that is a very good question, but i don't own any sub 60hz lcd monitors (or crt monitors for that matter), and using the VGA cable would imply that it would be plugged in to a device that would, by default, be able to handle 60hz. if my monitors/tv supports 50hz, then i simply don't know/care about it

And my last Q......if I get this VGA cable(R190) http://www.hdcabling.co.za/xbox-360...stereo-audio-gold-plated-connectors-p-46.html
Can I just plug and play?
yes, you plug it in, the xbox goes "hey, what the hell did you just plug into me???" and (i think) resets your display settings. you then go to your console settings section > display > and choose the resolution of your choice. using VGA also gives you the option to select "Standard. intermediate. expanded" and for me expanded looks more vibrant :)

thats kind of plug and play, right?

The reason why I asked about plu and play is because I don't want to download software(patches or whatever its called) to be able to use the cable.

And about the 50htz thinny. Some games are 50htz and some are 60htz.It doesn't really matter if you using an HD LCD or a cheap CRT but ive heard stories that when using a VGA cable that it won't play a game that is 50htz.

no need to patch to play with a VGA to my knowledge
