Xbox360 Component AV vs HDMI?

Option 1: Get a MS HDMI cable which includes an optical out
Option 2: Connect normal HDMI cable to the TV & remove the bulk plastic covering of the component cable so it will fit, then connect optical cable to that

...or get yourself an HDMI amplifier ;)

Xbox360 > amplifier > TV all via HDMI ...

The only difference between the two: You will not be able to output a 1080p MOVIE via component because of the licensing etc etc. MAX you will be able to get with a movie is 720p or 1080i.
Gaming, however, you'll get 1080p on component.

HDMI is required for that copy protection crap for HD television. Both HDMI and Component are digital connections and thus, have zero quality loss. If everything goes through that's supposed to, they'll look identical. Before HDMI Component was the way to go if you wanted to watch anything at the highest quality possible. It's HDMI/Component, then SCART(Euro AV), then S-Video then Composite, when it comes to quality.

HDMI is digital, component is analog.

I connect my xbox with an HDMI cable purely for convenience. Less cables, less fuss.

I'm getting that all over the place. Essentially, Xbox via Component is HD @ 1080p and the quality is no different to HDMI as far as one can see. If thats the case, why all the added effort of other cables and voodoo chants? Seriously, if its no different (and nowhere I've been pointed to can tell me that it is) I'd rather avoid buying MORE cables. I have a dvd player for dvd's, so thats not an issue as far as the Xbox is concerned.
