Xbox360 prices to skyrocket

A PC has become a chore for me. Staring at the same Windows interface the whole day is deadening to the soul. With the XBOX, lightly press (almost just touch) the power button, watch the nice logo spinning and the beautiful, smooth interface pops up - all within 10 seconds. With all the (necessary) clutter my PC has on, it takes a good 5 minutes before it's started up and ready to work. It just isn't worth it for me anymore.

A PC has become (for me, at least) what its original purpose was - a tool for doing my work.

Just a comment on your pilot / doctor comparison: I know many die-hard career people who are living their dream, so to speak. Those people prefer to do anything BUT get close to their career "tools" when they're off duty. I know flight attendants who love traveling the world, but hate flying as passangers...

Speculation my dear boy.

If the price increase does in fact happen and the weaker Rand is the cause you can expect PC games (as well as other console games) to follow suit.

PC games pricing has generally been more stable than console pricing. So that might not be the case of pc games following suit of console game pricing.

Either way everyone should do what pleases them.

I am glad I didn't buy that xbox 360 I was thinking of. I am glad I decide to stick just to pc gaming and not add a console as an addon to my gaming .

nah. if I was a chef, i would cook at home too - not despize it - because it would be the thing that I like doing, naturally.

A pilot does not hate flying as a passenger and a doctor doesn't mind helping the chocking victim in the restaurant.
Those are some k@k examples, buddy :D
- Chef: My brother is chef and refuses to cook at home (unless it's a special occasion)
- Pilot: No effort required as a passenger.
- Doctor: Of course he'd save the person in a life or death situation...which I remind you that gaming on a PC is not, despite the way some people make it out to be.

Just because you work infront of a PC all day don't make the PC sucky when at home - then you can relax.
I would argue that it does. As I'm typing this I'm imagining how glad I will be when I'm not sitting in this position and using the same interface/hardware when I get home later and decide to pop a game in for a quick play.

To be frank here, with an XBox you also power up a system, insert a CD, stare at a LCD screen and interface with it - double-clicking on a game icon does not count as hard work.
Oh, but it is less effort:
- My entertainment center incl. LCD , sound system, Xbox, DSTv, DVD player, etc is all in the same location. I can, from the comfort of my lounge, do a number of things to relax without having to sit upright with keyboard and mouse at the ready.
- I don't have to install games nor fiddle with various settings to get the optimal setting for my hardware. I just pop the disc in and play.

Good on you - I however, can handle the oh-so difficult part of clicking next, next, next, next, next....wait 3 minutes, and it's done! Don't even have to touch the disc ever again unlike you guys.

if you find clicking on "autodetect Hardware Settings" a chore, then you DESERVE to pay R1000 and up per game! mwahahahaha!:D :D

we just have better stuff....

Isn't there some form of copy protection that forces you to have the disc in the drive before starting up the game? If you're able to run it without the disc its more than likely a cracked version... ;)

Those autodetect thingies never choose the best image quality vs. performance for your system. The developers just make the game flip some switches based on the hardware IDs of the components in your PC. You get a better quality image and / or increased performance by fiddling with all the settings until you have better visual fidelity with increased performance. I remember this taking up to 30 minutes when I was still into PC gaming: Flip switch A, try out level. Flip switch B - get prompted to restart game, restart game and try out level. Realize switch B made little to no impact, flip switch C.

The fact that this whole process is removed from the console and you immediately get the BEST performance on the HIGHEST visual settings is what makes it so appealing.

Not better, just more configurable... :p

Naughty naughty, Mr. Pirate Man!

Keeper, are you sure you're not arguing in favour of the PC because of the "free" games?

No its not many of the games released this year hasn't required the disc to be in the system to play. They have had limited activations but that's a discussion for another place.

Also if you use daemon tools to play your legally purchased games you don't need the disc. That's also totally legal as long as you own the original game. Just like its likely to rip your music to your harddrive as long as you own the original.

ONLY original games im buying in 2009 are Stracraft 2 and Diablo 3, rest of the overcharged bloated crap can suck my DVD burner.

A lot of the games actually allow you to install and then play without the disc as they use online activation. Thats one positive side to DRM I guess :-/

*Facepalm*

Eish...guys - get with the times man.... there are many games that work without the CD/DVD.
i have one :D Mass Effect (1 install remaining thanks to DRM)

name 10 more please :D
