Console "kiddies"? I'm probably older (and definitely more responsible) than many of you posting in this thread. I prefer console gaming because it's fuss-free. I work on my computer for 9 hours a day - the last thing I want to do when I get home is boot it up again. Console gaming provides a welcome getaway from the stress of working and, besides, I only play games every other weekend or so. I rack up a glorious 4 hours of gaming a month... 
Poor console kids are going to have to ask mommy for more pocket money
lots of extra chores to do
Option a.) spend more on console titles or buy classics first or buy preplayed or just imported them cheaply.........or
Option b.) go back to buggy, driving installing, game installing, patch downloading, constantly upgrading, incompatible PC gaming (which lacks all the titles I like anyway).

Sheesh, sometimes I forget how the days of PC gaming were. Several hours to get drivers running correctly (and there's ALWAYS a "better" one out there), optimize windows so there's no memory wasted, cleaning out pc case now and then to stop overheating etc. etc.
No thanks, I'll stick to console from now on.

All I want to do when I get home from work is relax, sit the couch and watch a series/movie or play a quick game without sitting hunched over a keyboard (which I've done for a few hours @ work).

I notice you didn't factor in buying PC games over and above the R13000. You're not a dirty pirate by any chance are you?
Xbox360 Arcade = R1800
10 x games @ R650 = R6500
Total = R8300
Uber PC = R13000 (according to your calculations)
10 x games @ R350 = R3500
Total = R16500
Anyway, for me it's not a about the pricing. Its a comfort v.s. compatibility v.s. time needed issue.

All I can say is GameXChange guys
I don't buy a single brand new game for my XBox360. All are pre-owned. Either from GameXChange or BidOrBuy. Don't buy new. It's madness.
If everyone didnt buy new, and followed your advice, then there wouldnt be anyone to exchange 'new' games with...
You seem to have missed the fact that games will be costing more than R650 by january.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that going the PC route will cost you less at the the end of every year, PC Hardware Included.
lets say you buy 12 Xbox Games in 2009, which is basically a game a month.
Total: R12000
lets say you buy 12 PC Games in 2009, which adds up to R3600.
R12000 - R3600 = R8400 Extra to Spend Every Year!
Thats a 42" Full-HD LCD / HD 4870X2 / R8400 for a New PC/Upgrade - and thats only for the 1st year.
also, a PC can do a million more things than a Game-only System.

Anyway, for me it's not a about the pricing. Its a comfort v.s. compatibility v.s. time needed issue.
I have a high spec PC at home and work as well as a brand new laptop. Fact of the matter is I would still rather play games on my console.

If the price increase does in fact happen and the weaker Rand is the cause you can expect PC games (as well as other console games) to follow suit.

I was answering your point about PC's being able to do "so much more". Granted they can indeed, but that does not change the fact that a console is just so much less effort for someone whose whole life does not revolve around gaming and upgrading their PC to play the next badass title at the highest setting possible.
Again, speculation. However I can justify buying my games at higher prices as because:
1. I'm not spending money on more hardware
2. My gaming is done in my free time and I don't live for the next game, hence I take my time getting through titles and only buy what I really want to play (always been fussy like that)
Keeper, I used to be PC mad myself until I had no time/need to spend more time in front of a PC (i.e. real life things tend to take over) so I happily compromised with my new responsibilities and put gaming into the recreation category instead of the all out obsession it used to be.

I think Iwojima's last point sums it all up - its refreshing to get home and not having to work on the computer anymore. Somehow playing games on a console has more of a social appeal than PC gaming. You of all people should know I used to be a HUGE PC gamer(z). I have a lot more appreciation for games when playing it on the XBOX - I actually sit down and PLAY the game, not just skim through it to see what its like. I get my money's worth from every game I buy.
Also, the achievement system makes you WANT to finish a game thoroughly...

At the end of my PC gaming "career" I would just end up installing the newest games on my PC, check that they ran optimally, fiddle with the settings and play a bit.
It got to a point that I kicked myself for doing the last major upgrade because I had just spent all of this cash to play the newest games at the highest res/full detail and then realised that, "Wait a minute, I don't really feel like playing anymore...I'll go lie on the couch and watch the latest ep that just finished downloading instead because I can't be arsed to sit in front of a PC anymore"

nah. if I was a chef, i would cook at home too - not despize it - because it would be the thing that I like doing, naturally.
A pilot does not hate flying as a passenger and a doctor doesn't mind helping the chocking victim in the restaurant.
Just because you work infront of a PC all day don't make the PC sucky when at home - then you can relax.
To be frank here, with an XBox you also power up a system, insert a CD, stare at a LCD screen and interface with it - double-clicking on a game icon does not count as hard work.
