XBox360 Pro or Elite

i fell for all the hdmi hype and got an elite. IMHO its really not worth the extra grand. its black and fits in nicely with the colour scheme of my living room - but thats where the gimmick ends.
you dont need hdmi. bioshock through hdmi on my brand new 1080p 37' bravia lcd gives horrid 'block noise?' when displaying black backgrounds. component doesnt. useless 120Gb HDD for xbox live? where? when? go check all retailers - the black controllers, batteries & extras are on average R100 more expensive than the standard white counterparts. (look&listen sell their black wireless controllers for R450!)

i would take the extra grand and buy the premium/halo edition + 2 wireless controllers combo + play and charge kit + extra battery + remote or get the xbox wireless network adapter. money better spent.

I appreciate all the advise given. Musica still has the special listed so i gonna get that:D

Pro system with extra controller & wait for it halo 3, all for R3999.00. check it out here

Gavinminnion u said "Make sure you get the VGA cable and a female to female adaptor as well to play on a CRT"
Is this as additional cable i need to buy or will i get it on the pro system?
one more question just by looking at the console how do i tell i am getting the one with the larger heatsinks, etc?

To play on a computer monitor (CRT or flat panel) you will need to buy a VGA cable.

However if you are using a CRT monitor you will also need a femal-female VGA converter which you can get from electronics shops.

The Xbox ships with a component cable only

There's stock at most musica's (I can confirm I've seen it at the Musica DVD store in Canal walk) just walk in and pick one up.

On the VGA cable, yes in order to use a 360 on a monitor you need the additional VGA cable, but no other funny plugs or anything.

Ah but he said CRT Monitor and 95% of CRT monitors have a current cable on them, so you need something to connect the Xbox VGA cable to the current monitor cable

that hard driv would sure get in handy, playing on live and downloading demos etc, sure as hell is eating away at the 14 gig currently in the pro.

I have to delete demos etc, every short while to reload new ones.

Hmm, it seems my surreptitious deletion didn't get past your eagle eye refresh Gav ;)
You know I hate it when that happens. I usually edit my posts immediatly after writing them, mainly for spelling and grammer, and sometimes to remove some of my more incoherent statement, and every now and again some fool manages to quote me while I'm editing. Really, really annoying and I blame it all on them.

lol @ gouged exactly!

@Gav, I must say you've been absolutely on the ball as of late! Unfortunately the man that pays my salary wants his pound of flesh this month :(

Yeah my boss has unreasonable expectations of me as well, I mean it's 16:30 and they still expect me to work... what is this world coming to?

Quick question about the HDMI XB Pros... I heard that you sacrifice optical output over the component versions. Is that true? I'd want to use my 5.1 Surround system and not my TV's built in speakers...

Unless.... Do I then take the optical from the TV to the amp?

This HDMI vs component cable debate is funny. Some people say that component gives better picture.

Also I think its more convenient to have the audio separate.

I'm not sure, I don't have HDMI anything, but if your telly has an optical audio out that sounds like the right thing to use.

What happens if you have DVI only (HDMI --> DVI converter)? The sound should still be available from the xbox separate from the video, no?
