Do you guys use a tool like XFire for BF2 at all? It seems like a very cool piece of software.

Also, whats the policy of two people playing on a shared connection... I'm guessing that, like xfire, it might give them an advantage because they can still communicate when the one person is dead. Or does it only matter in tournaments and the like?

i ase xfire but i dont play bf2 cause of telkom :P cause i dont have dsl.....
You can share a connection tho.. it works 100% but have a higher dsl solution, the higher the better obviously!

Sitting next to the person and screen watching is looked down apon in the gaming scene, also for tournaments its an "illigal" thing to do!

Am I right in saying it is not allowed to use xfire when playing on the SGS servers. I think it is considered cheating and would lead to being banned?

How are they going to know?

I don't use xfire, cuz I don't like it... but I personally don't care if other ppl use it.

i use xfire but its not bad jeez it gives you server updates lol

i doubt sgs will ban it lol

maybe you guys mean teamspeak or something i dont think xfire is what your thinking it is

well, as fas as I know xfire provides for in-game communication, as well as filesharing, server monitoring, searching for buddies on servers etc. So whats the low-down on in game communication using a 3rd party app on SAIX servers? If teamspeak is banned then I'm pretty sure xfire will be to?

DOnt think they will ban teamspeak, maybe in big comps!!

i mean, BF2 supports VOIP in their game!!!

yes but, and correct me if I'm wrong here, you cannot chat to your squad when you are dead in BF2. But you CAN if you are using XFIRE / teamspeak. So surely some would say this would give an unfair advantage over normal BF2 VOIP.

Again, it might not matter for normal games, but for tournaments people might get sticky.

I only use xfire to check the servers and players - the ingame server browser sucks.

Uhh.. you're mistaken.

If you're a member of the squad, you can speak to the squad, regardless of wether you're alive or dead.

An extract from the SGS rules of engagement:
4. Applications

The following types of applications have been proven to give players an advantage while playing online and may not be used while playing on our servers. They are considered a cheat and if you are caught using then you will be banned.
4.1 hlirc
4.2 Roger Wilco
4.3 Teamspeak
4.4 Teamsound
4.5 Ventrilo
4.6 Any other voice over IP application

I use XFire, more for server monitoring, BF2 in game coms are more useful. It's also nice if someone wants to get hold of you via IM while you're fragging away. I don't know exactly how that help someone cheat though.

Maybe in CS where to can change your cam to watch the opposition once your dead. Can't do that in BF2

Y using an external VOIP capable program in BF2 is not allowed:

Squad 1 VOIP : Look out behind you stokestoke ! Eh ? Oh ... e'z not in my squad.
Using XFire : Look out behind you stokestoke !

or ...

You could advise a person on the other team what your squad's movements are using XFire. This is cheating.

Geddit ?

SGS-SAIX banned Teamspeak, etc, because it was illegal to use VOIP programs since beginning last year. Like always they never update their COC.

Looking on another players screen to benefit you = "skyfing", in gaming terms

I also use Xfire but only do server searches for that its the best app that I have found.

ok, the consensus seems to be that xfire is great for server browsing, but should not be used in-game. I have downloaded it and will try it out tonight.

Disagree that it shouldn't be used ingame...depends what you use it for? You can take screen shots etc as well..this isn't illegal.

Tis true Fivel. Its actually a question of whether peeps will use it to cheat at the expense of all others playing the game. If they are prepared to cheat then they dont care about others in the game anyway. So really its a question of personal morality and integrity. I personally would'nt sell myself for a couple of game points, but some would. You can't police that.

With you Darnit, don't even know where to start to cheat in BF2, as you know merely surviving is enough for me ;)
