XFX Warranty

This has happened before. Just go straight to Axiz, will save you time.

Like I said, if it came from PC Zone he cannot take it back to Axiz himself as they will not accept it, it has to go via PC Zone.

What's different about PC Zone compared to another retailer? If it came from Axiz, it came from Axiz. Axiz have taken back XFX products from consumers in the past, so I don't think it's as cut & dried as you think it is.

Yeah, I'll take it to Axis and see what they have to say. As expected, PC Zone weren't that much of a help :

They have agreements in place with the distributors they source kit from. Axiz will not take back a product from a consumer where it was purchased from PC Zone. I have tried before and I was told this by both PC Zone & Axiz, it sucks but that's how it is. Pretty much cut & dried.

You're welcome to try yourself, I will provide you with a serial# of a Samsung product that came from them, that much they were willing to confirm.

If you come right let me know as they flatly refused me on more than one occasion where it was purchased from PC Zone. Also make a note of who you spoke to.

I suppose if Axiz decided to make the warranty only 1 year, that'll be why PC Zone has it, otherwise it's pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

Agreements?

The only possible agreement I can understand is basically PC Zone pay Axiz less for products on the basis that they have a reduced warranty, which saves PC Zone/Axiz a bit of $ and time at the end of the day.

AFAIK the agreement that matters is between Axiz and their manufacturer. How any retailer can over-ride this I don't know.

I still think it's down to the employee you dealt with. Anyway, time will tell.

Never mind, you are right.

I'm not so sure yet. It's difficult to understand these "agreements" when consumers who've bought XFX products elsewhere have returned them to Axiz. I don't understand how the warranty terms between XFX and their supplier can change. I'm on the fence and we'll see what happens.

Well, I haven't had a chance to take the card back to Axiz yet with all these public holidays (not that I'm complaining :P), but I received an interesting response from PC Zone Pinetown branch :

Good Day,

In connection to your email, XFX have a 2 year warranty on their cards, therefore your card should still be under warranty.
If you bring it in with the invoice I will be able to send it away to be assessed and replaced.

Regards,
Jovan Retief
Technical - Pinetown

So, interestingly enough, one branch says that it only has one year warranty and another branch says it's two  Jovan seems to be able to use cohesive English so I'm inclined to believe his response over the Ballito one...

Going to print out the email and take it with me when I take the card back, just for extra leverage :D

Otherwise make use of the new Consumer Protection Act on PC Zone.

Here's a scenario that my financial adviser sent me:
2. I’m not happy with a product I bought from a supplier and he hasn’t let me exchange it. I want to complain. Do I have to go to court?
The office for consumer protection is now known as the National Consumer Commission. Consumers can lodge complaints with the new consumer commission on the number: 0860 266 786 or you can send a fax to 0861 515 259.

The department of trade and industry website (www.thedti.gov.za) has the contact details for the commission as well as the provincial consumer office in each of the nine provinces.

Consumer courts are being set up in each province. They will hear your complaint for free.

I'll probably give them a call, but I don't think I really need to. I've just seen on the Axis website that XFX cards do in fact have a two year warranty - at least I know that for sure now :)

But, ponder says stuff bought at PC Zone cannot be returned to Axiz by the consumer/customer. Yet there have been plenty of cases on these forums where products bought elsewhere (specifically XFX gfx cards) have been successfully returned to Axiz by the consumer.

So he's of the opinion that it can't be done, I'm not sure and am of the opinion that it should be able to be done on the basis that all XFX gfx cards have 2 year warranties, and that nothing between the supplier (Axiz) and retailer (PC Zone) can change the warranty agreement between the supplier and manufacturer (XFX).

So would be good for you to give us some clarification. ;)

Ok well, I gave Axiz a call and they said I must go through the proper channels for my warranty (PC Zone), BUT if PC Zone refuses to take it I can take the card straight to them and they would see what they could do. They didn't mention any agreement with PC Zone.

I took it back to PC Zone and they logged the fault no problem. They sms'd me a couple days later saying that I can collect - turns out there was corrosion on the card with isn't covered under warrany :(

Oh well, nothing I can do about it now. On the hunt for a new card :)

Bad luck. :( Wonder if XFX used cheap metal for that card.

Thanks for info re PC Zone and Axiz.

ponder, your thoughts?

Got my Asus 9800GTX Replaced by Frontosa a month ago, got a GTS250, the card had a 3year warranty on it. Frontosa were really helpful, got my card from computersonly.co.za so I could get my invoice/proof of payment easily.

Asus Customer service is tops also
