8.1 BUG: Too many unread sms's causes the phone to bootloop

So my mom told me her phone started bootlooping yesterday. I took a look. I turned the phone off. Turned on, it gets to the "code to unlock" screen and I entered the phone code. Phone boots in and asks for sim unlock codes. After a couple of seconds, the 10 unread sms's my mom had on the phone flashed up at the top as notifications and then the phone reboots.

My fix was to reboot the phone, quickly unlock the sims, unlock phone again and quickly go into MESSAGES and make all the sms's read. This way the top notifications stopped and the bootlooping stopped happening.

I can't help but wonder if the original SMS bug in the first 8.1 rollout is still present in this modified bootloop form..... Weird of note!
 
Jeesh... Finally updated the firmware last night and now my phone boots intermittently. Tried deleting all my SMSes. Anyone else having issues?

Try kill all other backed up notifications that make cards pop down from the top of the screen on bootup. That fixed it for my mom and she has been fine since.

I have noticed lots of stutters since going to Oreo 8.1. This firmware is not lekker. For years I dreamed of vanilla android like A Pixel / Nexus, but the Mi A1 software experience has been very poor. I'm ready to go back to Miui. Still my phone answers itself or kills the call when I pull it out of my pocket while ringing. F$%K it irritates me and customers calling me

Thanks! I disabled all notifications. Fingers crossed that this sorts out the problem for now.

I love my A1 but this update is seriously getting on my nerves. Counterproductive to get things done when I can't even send a whatsapp before it reboots.

What version are you on?

I've not had any issues on build ending ODHMIFE (Telkom, if that makes a difference?)

I've had no issues with my update
 
August Security update of about 450MB is rolling out. Updating now...

UPDATE 1: Notification light blinks now - 8.1 bug had it on solid for a notification

Any problems with that one? I'm away this weekend, can't afford for phone to gimme kak...

Hmm. Should I wait for Monday or just go for it?? :)

I installed it already. Have not noticed any changes.

The major bug bear is that my phone has a frequent stutter since Oreo 8.1. I'll click a link in twitter and the phone will think for a second or 2 and then pop up the chrome browser.

I will open a new sms and the phone will think for a second or 2. It's quite irritating. Not 100% sure if it is my ecosystem/rogue app or the OS in general.

My Mi Max 3 just arrived, so that will solve my stutter problem :)
 
Android 9.0 Pie rolling out to the Xiaomi Mi A1

Smartphones that are part of the Android One program come with a promise for timely OS updates. Well, it's hardly been timely, but Android 9.0 Pie has now rolled out to the Xiaomi Mi A1.

The firmware weighs in at 1074MB and aside from bringing the major OS release, comes with support for FM radio - until now it wasn't available on the A1, but just on its Chinese-only twin 5X.

The brief changelog also mentions new navigation options - whether it's the Pixel pill button and gestures, or Xiaomi's custom implementation, remains to be seen. Adaptive battery and brightness features are also introduced.

Android Pie is out via OTA
I've updated on 10/01/2019 and everything seems to be working fine.
Some folks on GSMArena complain about spotty 4G and GPS coverage - I have not seen this.
Others mentioned that BT devices aren't showing in the notification bar - I do have this, but the devices (Amazfit Pace, Skulkandy Hesh 3, cars bluetooth) all work 100% - there is just no BT Icon showing.
Oh, and there is now a dedicated FM-Radio icon and a "Files" app under the apps.

After almost a full year I'm still so chuffed with this phone. I got to set up a relative's Samsung Note 9 over the past weekend and I was so annoyed by all the bloatware. I don't think I'll be able to go back to a device that is not running stock Android.
 
My phone updated to Pie. I've only noticed one issue, my bluetooth kept connecting and disconnecting. Tracked it down to the battery optimisation. Once I disabled it for my bluetooth apps, no problem at all.

Oh also have no problem with call recording (apparently Android 9 doesn't suppose call recording or third party apps that do it).
