Xiaomi Mi A1 (5X)

Xiaomi is slipping with updates. 1 March and the Feb update has still not rolled out. So much for the Mi A1 receiving timely updates like proper Google phones. It's not the end of the world, but the hype made it out that updates would be snappy.

Give it time. Chinese had their new year, now, they're still on holiday mode.

February update finally rolling out. Not available to my device yet. 87.3mb update.... unnamed.jpg

Just installed the Feb security update. Had to update Google Play Services in settings>apps first before the "check for updates" button actually gave me the update to download.

Received the Rose Gold one this morning. Such a stunning colour. Mother is happy, wife is jealous.....

I'm trying to order a Mi A1 from gearbest.com, and would like to ship it through Aramex. However, their Hong Kong address is too long and I get an error on the gearbest page where I input the shipping details.

Any advice from anyone that has done the same? Or what is the best way to get one here?

Thanks!

Why not just choose Priority Line shipping, which is also Aramex based? Priority Line most probably only $11 or so which beats Aramex Global Shopper pricing for 500g

Yeah just use priority line.its faster than AGS

Pro tip: Do NOT make your ringtone a Tiesto mp3. The loudspeaker is so fooking loud on this phone, the entire Woolworths queue gave me deadly side eyes and because I had chosen to hold my goods instead of use a basket, I took time to juggle and frantically push the power key to shut it up. Back to Cassiopeia tone for me...

April update now rolling out. Currently downloading.... Screenshot_20180324-073743.jpg

How are you finding your Mi A1 so far? I'm really thinking of ordering one from Gearbest.

Love it! I was in Cape Town for a wedding Tues-Sun last week and used the Mi A1 exclusively for navigation and it worked perfectly - going to throw my old outdated Garmin away now. Also wifi hotspotted for all the family to use my MTN 50GB BF sim and the battery did well with that too.

I have zero complaints about this handset. If I drowned/killed mine, I would order another one immediately, although I would be BLEAK not to get a red one again as stock is finished (except for a few 4/32 units left.

Does anyone find that their mobile data struggles to connect sometimes? Once it's on it stays on, but if I disable it for whatever reason (wifi on, aeroplane mode, etc) it sometimes doesn't connect again. The signal is there so I can make phone calls, but it won't connect. I've got some success by trying to force certain band/frequencies using a signal tool app, but nothing consistent.

I am on Telkom, and use a custom rom.

I'm not sure if the stock ROM has the same issue but I'm a little hesitant to test it since I have my whole set up done on my phone and it would be quite a story to redo all the customizations :(

I tried to flash the modem.img from the stock ROM but it made no difference.

It's almost like it is struggling to authenticate with Telkom, but I've checked the apn settings and they look right compared to what the internet sites say they should be.

Any advice?

Vodacom voice sim in slot 1. MTN data sim in slot 2. No problems with throughput or data connections. Smooth handover from WiFi to mobile data.

That's a Telkom problem

I've never experienced that. Got a voice sim & data sim. I can disable/enable either or with no issues?

@gu3st what phone you using? Noticed some xiaomi owners having issues.

I've got an LG, my wife has a Xiaomi and my MIL has a Huawei we've all experienced that issue.
