Xiaomi Mi A1 (5X)

Just received my A1 from Amazon yesterday (R3990 including shipping).

Note: Had an issue where WiFi signal kept dropping when I was a few meters away from my dual band router. Found out it only works if I "switch off" the 5GHz band frequency (so the phone doesn't auto select bands very well :(). Will work OK if the SSID names are different for each frequency but not ideal for me :)

Finally found a gap to sideload Android Auto onto this new phone and test it in my Ranger. Wow! What a difference stock Android makes. Android Auto comes up on the vehicle display instantly and maps load within a second. All "OK Google's" result in a snappy action on the vehicle display. Also, as this is my first USB-C device, the reassuring snugness of the cable into the phone is a big improvement. On my Note 3, no matter what cable I used, road bumps sometimes lost the connection between phone and vehicle.

Change the channel to a lower channel on the router that might help.

Okay they've refreshed and it definitely looks like the M1A is gone :-(. What got to me is it was never on Takealot or Game or any other supplier but them.

Why is Android Auto not available in the Play Store?

Never been officially offered to SA by Google. Reason completely unknown. That's why car manufacturers (Ford for example) only advertise Apply CarPlay for their infotainment systems and not Android Auto as it is not official here.

Misers.

Dankie Oom.. Installed it .. plugged the fker via usb and nothing happened. :D Guess my car is not supported.

If Ford, you need Sync 3. AA also needs phone to be connected via Bluetooth and USB.

I used TuneIn to listen to the radio while I showered and shaved this morning (phone wrapped twice in a pajama shirt to protect against steam of course) and the loudspeaker deserves a mention for clarity and volume. I saw it mentioned in reviews and it is true that the Mi A1 has excpetional loudspeaker qualities...

I am not noticing too much difference in battery life compared to my Redmi Note 3 I had before. More than happy with 5hrs SOT SOT.PNG

Xiaomi is slipping with updates. 1 March and the Feb update has still not rolled out. So much for the Mi A1 receiving timely updates like proper Google phones. It's not the end of the world, but the hype made it out that updates would be snappy.
