Xiaomi Mi A1 (5X)

I'm looking at purchasing this phone from Gearbest with Priority Line shipping. How long can I actually expect it to take? My Nexus 5x died out of the blue so kind of need a replacement ASAP.

I ordered a phone from Gearbest on 24 January and chose Priority Line, it arrived in SA on Friday last week. Waiting patiently for it to clear customs now... Hoping to get it before the end of the week. All in all about 2 weeks.

I ordered my Mi A1 on Friday 19th. Lost a few days between Hong Kong and Dubai. Got to JHB last Wednesday 31/01/2018. Cleared customs on Friday 2/02/2018 and I received my invoice for duties and paid it this morning. Aramex JHB says I should have the device in the next 1-2 days which will make it around 12-14 working days...

I received my red Mi A1 today and am blown away by the colour and the snappiness of the phone. Coming from a 2GB Note 3, the performance increase is phenomenal. So happy with my purchase and saved big bucks by importing (although red is not available locally anyways).

@Flash
how much did it come to all in?

Just ordered another one, Rose Gold for my mom this time.....

I'm considering ordering 2 of them, one for myself and one for the wife, want to get back to dual Sim devices. Any thoughts on these from those guys who already have them? Best places to order from, turn around time etc? Thanks

I received my red one on Tusday this week and previously had a Redmi Note 3. Highlights on the Mi A1 are the camera, premium build quality, flagship snappiness when switching between APPS (even with several tabs left open, Chrome never has to reload a tab when I switch back to it - all pages are still there in memory) battery life on Oreo (only ran Nougat for 2hrs) is very good and I am not missing the 4050mah battery on the Note 3. The phone is slippery and while I have always stated that I prefer to use my phones coverless, I have been using my Mi A1 with a clear Polycarb back cover on which I also ordered from Gearbest. Phone took 2 1/2 weeks to get from Gearbest to my local Aramex (I was impatient and went to collect my phone from Aramex as soon as they scanned it into the warehouse inventory). I paid R2900 for phone, insurance and Priority Line delivery. Customs was R300.

I ordered a second one, rose gold, yesterday for my mom....

You won't go wrong. Bang for buck, R3300 to your door is for nothing. You will not get a better all in one mid ranger for that money IMO.

Covers ($2-$4 each!!) can be ordered from Gearbest via a second order and Aramex courier is only another R170 or so and should not attract customs. (can't get CHINA Warehouse covers for HONG KONG warehouse phone in same order)

Thanks, what all comes in the box? I'm considering getting the red for myself and the rose gold for my wife. Any chance you could post some actual pics of the red?

In the box for all the colours: normal 2 pin 5v/2a charger and USB C cable, sim removal tool, a flyer about Android One, the phone.

In the red edition box they give you a free screen protector right at the bottom of the box.

I'll take some pics a little later and upload.

Sorry @Connor13 - I avoided taking my hardcover off this weekend. When I next do take it off the phone to clean it, I will snap pics...

Regarding the phone - the current Oreo firmware has a bad 4G calling bug. I have a VODA sim in slot 1 and MTN sim in slot 2. The MTN sim is set for data. If I allow the MTN sim to be on 4G and make or take a call on MTN, the call drops after a few seconds and the phone says "network not available". I also have MTN calls where I can hear the other party but they can't hear me.

If I run the MTN sim on 3G only, voice calls are not affected and are perfectly stable. I am now running 3G all the time and only switch it to 4G when I need to do a big download or intend using data intensive services for an extended time. I then go back to 3G on both sims.

I really hope the imminent February update fixes this as it is a medium pain!

Thanks , looks really good , pity no one carries that color here in SA . Would have loved to get one , but can't wait 2 to 3 weeks as I'm going to need a new device in the next couple of days with mine giving issues .

I should sell you mine and order another...

I noticed MIA have removed the A1 from their site, even though their front page still has a Youtube video of the device. Wonder if they are all out of stock of all 3 colours and decided to pull the page?

I think they've restored from an older website as they don't list the Note 4, Note 5a or any newer device, it's almost as if the website has gone back a year.

Sounds like their Twitter account support. I told them straight I was going to import the Mi A1 because they took so long to reply to my query as to when they would stock it and that's exactly what I did.

What was their response... Or are u still waiting on one.

Its fair dinkum. 3200 vs 5000

THIS (and no red in SA)

They took 5 days to eventually reply after I reply nailed them. They eventually came out with "we do not have an answer at this time". YET, they launched the phone 4 weeks later. No ways a big company does not know their forecasts for new products so they were just avoiding.
