Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

Even if it works with the PS4 controller (which I doubt) what games do you expect to play? I have a LIT box which is very similar to the Mi box and also running Android Tv. My kids are playing a handful of play store titles using the XBox 360 controller(via usb cable) but the selection of titles is extremely disappointing. Very small collection of games on Android Tv and even less that supports controllers.

Definitely not going to play android games

I plan on streaming from my gaming pc which I also use for work, so it needs to be at a desk in another room instead of plugged into the tv via hdmi.

I used to use a HP microserver which worked quite well, but that microserver has a new home and is also a bit big to sit next to the TV.
 
What ethernet adapter can we use with this? I am interested in the box but use a wired connection.
 
How does this box compare to the Minix u1. I have the u1 at the moment and dstv now stopped working. Now i have two options this or the telkom lit box. I mainly use kodi on it though.

Not sure how it compares, but Dstv Now is working as well as Kodi. Its played every format I can throw at it.

Also played Netflix well, and can play stuff over Samba from my Raspberry pi NAS through kodi or VLC.
 
Now that you can get the mi box for a r1000 locally, is it better than the lit box?

I have a lit box and happy with it but i always think that it could be better.

Is the mi box that much better?
 
I see the MeCool M8S Pro W and L(7.1.2) now run the Android TV OS similarly to the Mi and Lit box. <br />

Picked this up from an ad on Gumtree Cape Town where a guy sells boxes on a regular basis - I always keep an eye on it just out of interest . The MeCool M8S Pro W goes for R849 - so this is probably the cheapest &quot; local &quot; Android TV box - I didn't pick up the casting function from the box on a quick search which is weird since it is native to Android TV OS - maybe just missed it/misread.

It doesn't have casting because it's not an official Google certified box.

I have read somewhere, Googling the box , this might be the way android boxes will go very shortly - the Android TV OS - and everybody thought Android TV is dead initially . Shows you what pressure does when companies like ZTE " shuts down " due to the US .

So Android TV OS is another copy and paste then ?

It does have Android TV, the real one but it's not certified by Google, also the W version has the slowest of the S905 SOC family.

What I am saying/realising - didn't know Android TV OS is being used without being official then - the new trend sooner or later it seems - didn't know this was possible , thought they would protect it in a way , but probably did with casting not being available but still unofficial apps like Terrarium TV etc has native casting so yeah , who knows .
 
Rather spend extra and get a mi box.
Between geartbest and geekbuying we've imported 6.
Works out to about R1200.
