Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

Is anyone else noticing that the remote occasionally just stops working? I have two of these boxes and both of them have done this. When it happens I notices that going into the device menu (using my phone as remote) I see that the remote battery is updated because when if I change batteries the battery percentage onscreen changes. This I believe means the remote it talking to the mibox but it is just ignoring commands. Unpairing the remote brings up the pair help screen and even that will not work but rebooting the box and repairing works. Next time it happens I will just try a reboot with first unpairing.

@atunguyd No remote issues whatsoever on my end but on these boxes a reboot fixes a myriad of issues.
@crawler there should be a way if i am not mistaken but a 3rd party app may be required. Also some apk's do allow writing to other storage so I suspect it is possible.
@JohnnyL Can you download or install apps from the google playstore?

I am not sure what you mean on my other android box I can download apk files However on Xiaomi Box I get an error DOWNLOAD IS NOT SUPPORTED ON THIS DEVICE YET. Therefore what is your suggestion to get passed this issue. I can load the APK file on my PC to a USB and try and load from there. What is your recommendation, have you had similar problems.

Method 1: Using a USB Drive

This is one of the easiest methods of sideloading apps on Android. However, if your device doesn’t have the standard USB port, you may need to have a converter or use the other methods.

Here’s the procedure:

  1. Download the ES Explorer apk file on your computer. To avoid downloading a corrupted file, get your apk from APKPure, Aptoide, or APKMirror. These two are known to keep their shops clean.
  2. Copy the APK file to your USB flash drive.
  3. Plug it into your Android TV or TV Box using the USB slot.
  4. Use the default file manager to open the flash drive.
  5. Navigate to where you have stored the ES Explorer apk file and then click to install.
I googled for you (sometimes when moving through ES file explorer its hard to see the button highlights)

Then install apktime https://apktime.com/apps/ and allow apktime make changes to device. From apktime you can install many apps but really all you need is cyberflix for TV shows/Movies and mobdro for live tv (its a bit meh).

Get Real Debrid (R160 for 3 months) for a much better viewing experience and trakt (free) for marking your episodes watched (both are in the cyberflix options login with phone and put in the code on cyberflix).

That pretty much sums up everything you need.

Hi There,

Can anyone help me out on this thread I have recently purchased the Xiaomi Mi TV Box S Media Player, I am unable to load any APK files on to this box, I get an error DOWNLOAD IS NOT SUPPORTED ON THIS DEVICE YET. I have tried many APK files and get the same error. This cannot be right am I doing something wrong.
What app are you trying to download with?
I had that problem with Puffin Browser but installing an older version solved that.

Yeah would be great for there to be an app that just reboots them every evening at say 2am. Although another 'issue' I have found is that when the MiBox does reboot or restart it switches my TV on because of HDMI CEC, I guess I could disable that but it is useful to use my TV remote to control the MiBox when the bluetooth remote gives up.

For some reason my Netflix app won't play anything. Keeps giving me an error about it detecting an adblocker or proxy.

Certainly no adblocker installed and I've never run through a VPN.

Tried restarting router and MiBox, changed DNS settings from ISP default to Google DNS and logging in and out of Netflix account.

Anything else I can try.

Anyone else sharing your Netflix account? Read recently that Netflix is clamping down on sharing of accounts.

Nope. Only recently signed up. And only using it on the MiBox. Only logged in via the laptop on chrome once to add two profiles for the kids.

Perhaps get in touch with them after trying the standard logging out and completely wiping the netflix cache data, forcing closing it then uninstalling - throw in a reboot for good measure and try a clean install and see what happens. If that still does not help then shoot them an email.

With my limited ability ,I experienced the same issues when I purchased my Mibox S
Fortunately the Google machine directed me to the fabulous Mibox APK installer for Android TV from the Google Play Store(R15.99)
Plug in flash drive that contains all your favorite apk collection to the box, installation is done in seconds
Definitely money well spent!
