Has Xiaomi managed to release a better update for all the remote etc issues on V9.0 yet? Took delivery of my MiBox S today and want to know whether I have the option of NOT installing dodgy updates if they will break the damn thing?

You have to click on the update to get it. You can ignore the notification to update until you're ready.
Doesn't auto-install AFAIK.

I have HDMI to TV, then optical out from TV to soundbar
HDMI to my retro TV and then audio out to my retro audio amp.

Got mine last Thurs
So far so good. Update message popped up and I installed the update. No issues after the update, remote works 100%. However, it experience a green screen of death on Sat. The only solution was a cold restart. No issues since then.even if I buy it is it worth it ?

You want a decent experience, buy a Mi-Box, Emantic, or a Google Chromecast TV device. Cheaper can work, but hassles are usually not worth it. Otherwise go more expensive and get a nVidia Shield.
The Mi S Box looks like a good buy specially now being Black Friday

Funny story I wanted a tv box so long ago but I got it in 2020 ... wow can’t this year get any better or weird
