Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

I bricked a mi box I bought last week. Tried to install the wrong version OTA now it just boot loops. Can’t find a full firmware so is it a paperweight?

Issue is that it’s a “once” device but the OTA download I applied made it a no name device.

Any chance of a resurrection or should I continue using it as a coaster?

How do you manage to install the wrong firmware OTA? Surely the built in update function will only offer valid versions for OTA update?

See, if the remote, read on Reddit that if you hold the "ok" and "back" button simultaneously it Should go into recovery mode.

Yeah I've done that. Nothing can be done in recovery mode because if I try to use the correct OTA update it can't verify because the name of the box isn't what it should be for the file.

So it's bootlooped to recovery too.

Are you sure this was an OTA, or did you download and manually install a firmware update?
 
Hi all,

I am new to the MiBox. Ordered mine from Gearbest and setup DSTV now.
It works fine but the Live TV channels and text is very small.

Tried changing resolution but didnt help.

Is there any way of making the images and text bigger (responsive design) like on a web browser?

Settings > Display > Screen Position

or it's just the new DSTV Now UI

Lol so that’s not an OTA update. An OTA update is as was mention before Over The Air. Meaning on your device you just go to about and upgrade and it will install the correct version.

So you clearly buggered up your device by installing firmware not compatible. Don’t think there’s anything you can do about it now. It’s probably just a paperweight now.

It makes a better coaster haha

I downloaded the OTA update to speed up the process of updating, but the wrong one lol
 
I'm thinking of ordering mine from Takealot Please can someone advise what usb hub works with the Xiaomi Mi Box? I need one for the air remote and 1 for the hard drive. Also does this unit with with NTFS drives?

An update as already been sent out that fixes the NTFS issue.

Hi there,

How is the responsiveness on the live channels? Especially sport?

Any lag, stutter, quality issues? Is it as good as having a decoder and dish?

What's your line speed?

DSTV Now is hit and miss, some days it just works, and other days it stutters to the point of uselessness. Full disclosure........ I only have a 4MB line, but I have seen similar complaints from 20/50/100M users as well. I also don't generally tend to have issues with YouTube/Showmax/Netflix, they just work.
