Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

Hence the heads up on alternative

PS Anyone know any APK that has the soapie The Bold & the Beautiful. Its the only missing piece to ditching Monochoice. or SABC 3 streamed somehow

I genuinely thought I was the only one with this guilty pleasure. lol

An apk for it?

I would have recommended Terrarium TV but it really is a hit-or-miss affair with that nowadays, as far as that show is concerned.
You might not get even a single link, even with Real-Debrid.

I'm not sure this will help you (you're probably way behind if you are watching the SABC 3 BB schedule) but I use the CTV site to watch the latest episodes. There's an apk for it as well (you can get it from the Aptoide TV store) but I prefer loading up in Chrome (use an adblocker for those pesky ads) and casting it to the Mi Box.

The catch is that if you were looking to catch up on older episodes you'd need to sign in with details of an overseas TV service provider. Otherwise even only a weeks old content will be blocked. I avoid that issue by obviously keeping up to date with the episodes as they air. To be precise-a day or a few days later after they've aired. To watch them live/same day you have to have those TV service provider details.
But of course older stuff can always be had via torrenting, etc.

Streaming quality works a bit like, say, Netflix. In that it will detect your connection speed and take a few seconds to kinda adjust the image quality accordingly.

Here's the latest episode: https://www.ctv.ca/The-Bold-and-the-Beautiful/Video/S32E31-Friday-October-5-2018-vid1470608

Aside from BB, they also have a bunch of other series and movies.

Thank you so much for that detailed answer @Vernon. I am actually trying to get my folks off from Monochoice but they are so used to some things and that show is one of their favorites. I introduced them to youtube and surprisingly that has kept them busy and occupied for weeks now. They are not into movies/series either so they are easy to please. I have them hooked up to a fire tv and I do have DSTV Now on it. But the login details I have are on the Mi box that I personally use. So its a case of trying to please everyone. I did come across a site for soapies before but it was a website and chrome does not play well on android boxes. Will check out that link and see if I can get them use and stick to it.

Personally I am still finding out what to rely on - But Netflix and Tea TV cover most of my guilty pleasures.

Cool.

I would have also mentioned the official BB CBS site ( https://www.cbs.com/shows/the_bold_and_the_beautiful/ ) but you'd also need a DNS provider for this one to bypass the geo-restrictions.

Latest episodes for free. If you want full access you have to sign up with CBS All Access. The latter is a paid service.
$5.99/month for limited commercials. $9.99/month - commercial free.

BTW, that CBS All Access app is actually built-in to the Mi Box operating system. It has been disabled with regard to Mi Box units sold outside the US, but you can sideload the app. Thereafter, the app will update as normal via the Google Play Store.

Install blokada app. Go to blacklist icon then click + icon on bottom right corner, click host tab then type in blog.nitroxenon.com then put anything into comment section then save, go back to home screen of blokada and press the power button bottom right corner to turn it on, force close terrarium the just in case then open it again.
Or block it in your router. Works fine then

Thanks very much. Using Blokada worked for me, for some reason doing this in my router did not.
I had to re-install Terrarium as I uninstalled it, I used the following link to download the APK

I thought I'd share this. I was about to turf my decade old Logitech MX 5000 Bluetooth keyboard and mouse which never worked very well when I thought I'd try it out on the Mi Box before doing so. It pairs beautifully as does the mouse. New life for old stuff ...

Thanks. I saw the first one. Why does it call it mini USB? Is that fat USB that will fit into the Mi Box?

It's been a long week...

I haven't looked but cables.co.za is also a good place other than the usual retailers. It's a wholesaler in Randburg but you can walk in and a couple of months ago I got a micro HDMI to HDMI cable for R97, so a good price. There's other cable places around if it's not near to you.

Thanks. I think that Takealot one will work. The picture is definitely normal USB, not USB mini. If it doesn't, I'll just send it back.

My small bluetooth speaker completely refuses to pair

However I wanted to fix up my Terrarium over the weekend but blokada was not behaving as expected. Had a brainwave idea to try my usb mouse and voila. I can now point, scroll up and down and basically operate as well as click on any options throughout apps with it.

For some reason I have never thought of using a usb/wireless mouse. New usage for something I have always had and never thought of trying out.

Yeah I had the same issue, spent like an hour looking for the old USB keyboard then remembered I threw it out over a year ago and out of desperation just tried the mouse

Are the speakers from well-known brand ?

Nah it is some cheap simple bluetooth speaker - similar to these R300 JBL speakers that are constantly always on promotion only some obscure brand thats why I am no so worried about it - everything else pairs well.

I don't think the box is happy pairing with gadgets that are not from well known brands, I had some cheap Bluetooth earphones that MIA Africa were practically giving away, only had to pay for delivery, the box never paired to it but it happily pairs to my JBL flip 3 speaker.

hmm... thats interesting. macbook, phone, all paired except this obscure speaker - I guess i'll avoid all no name brands where mi box is concerned if thats the case

Does Filmontv app work on the mi box? Filmontv seems to have all of the live uk channels itvbe, channel4, bbc etc.

Dstv now seems to experiencing streaming issues with some channels. I occasionally get an error message and have to reload channel.

Dstv now is ok but I seem to use the box for Netflix and youtube more often.

I find that I eventually get bored of Dstv now and revert to Netflix.

Shonda Rimes (greys anatomy, how to get away with murder, scandal etc) has a contract with Netflix. I am impressed by the amount of content we are now getting from Netflix. Yea there is some kak on Netflix but also a few gems.

It is really difficult to go back to watching adverts

Netflix is dope. They just have to get you to do a trial and you are hooked. No way you will be cancelling especially when you see how much content/quality you get with less than 200 bucks a month. As for filmontv - works on my end however I think one needs a subscription to make full use of it.

Netflix has no sport. That is basically all I ever watch on tv
