Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

I've got a Hisense B8000

When I say best all round picture, I mean I don't want to be changing settings everytime I change app. For example 1080p setting for DSTV now and 4k for YouTube

The Hisense B8000 is only a 8 bit panel, so your best colour space settings would be YCbCr 420 for best compatibility. The MiBox is (and always has been) buggy in general. It's not a high-end device, so you'll need to do tweaking to get things right. If you really want the best, forgo 4K and stick to 1080p60. It's the best compromise for sound vs visuals. Seems to give the least amount of hassles, and most apps work fine. 4K / HDR is where things get wonky.

I can't watch 4K Bluetooth enabled on Netflix, or any fancy Dolby content... but can do fine on Amazon Prime and YouTube. That's Xiaomi for you.

At 1080p the device is great. It falls apart at proper 4K.

This may help but I don't think this is the issue

I could blame it on ARC, try removing the device connect via ARC. I know Netflix will not display 4k content if there is a device that does not support HDMI 2.0 I believe, also make sure the mibox is connected to an HDMI 2.0 or later port. Had the same thing with my box, removed soundbar from ARC, then only I could see dolby vision content etc.
I changed cables, ran test patterns all just show 1080p. I remember the sound bar from arc and nothing. The cable is connect to the 4k60hz port on the TV.

So after some playing around with various settings, it seems auto switch best display resolution now works whereas before it would always default to 720p60hz, it now defaults to 4k60hz, colour depth on, Ycbcr420 and 12 bit.

There is definitely a colour discrepancy now, it's very noticeable with the Reds and Whites. If I keep changing the settings it improves miraculously but the moment I restart the box, the reds and whites change back to being duller and darker... Very odd.

Yes . I have noticed the colour changes too.
I also noticed that now I can get 5.1 audio. Passthrough on Netflix via spdif/ optic

What TV do you have PDF? Looks like Hisense which model?

I've settled on 1080p which seems to look the best in terms of quality and colour

I decided to tinker on 1080 60hz, and I can agree... It's marginally clearer on DStv than on when on 4k... And the mibox is much more responsive on 1080. Colours are also more accurate, Ycbcr defaults to 444 on 1080 which could be the reason.

Even if restarting the box, colours remain correct once booted up

Drawback is Netflix etc not being in 4k if left on that setting

Also noticed the colours improve when colour space BT2020 is detected rather than BT709. It changes on its own though.
