These are the sensors I use to measure temperature and humidity inside and outside my house.

Well, I will be moving soon to a new house and so before I disassemble everything, I thought that I would leave some thoughts here for others that may or may not be interested in these.

The sensors: Xiaomi Mi Smart Temperature and Humidity Sensor
The gateway: Xiaomi Gateway 1 (no longer available so linking to 2 that looks the same)

My setup:
Sensors -> Gateway -> Openhab -> influxdb -> Grafana

In the new house, I will drop Openhab and start over with HomeAssistant.

First, the batteries. They did well. But I see after about a year and 2 months (give or take) they are now finally starting to drop.

Next, they showed me the fridge I suspected not working properly anymore...well really wasn't working good enough. At the end of 2018 we got rid of the Defy (sold it for R500 as-is saying its not cooling as it should) and bought a Bosch. You can see the fridge temperature dropping and becoming a nice solid line.

Also, On the humidity for the fridge, its interesting to note 3 weeks in August and again 7 days at the end of December, the humidity line of the Fridge is solid. That's when we were away from home, so not opening the fridge at all.

Interesting. I have the Xiaomi bluetooth one. It's linked to my MI home app, but I never thought of doing anything fancy. I noticed that you can do some automation.

Yeah the baby room heater is automated for winter to keep room to at least 20 degrees

Fridge sends a notice if the temp goes above 7.

I would have thought that the sensor would have trouble communicating from inside the fridge. Glad to know that its now an option for early warning fridge failure / fridge open sensor :).
