Xiaomi Note 3 now R1899

Got mine today - first impressions: impressed! #dealoftheyear

A friend of mine also got his order in before stocks were finished. He ordered on 05/10.
He called today, they said it takes 7 working days...

I second this ;)

If you're in Jo'burg you can also collect from the Sandton IC store.

I did call them, i was told "their systems are down", they are manually updating and sending out packages, there is a queue and i have to be patient.
I live about 70km from sandton -_-

For this phone I would drive there and fetch it - I drove a return journey of 40km on a Saturday to fetch mine from FedEx

Anyone know if this phone is available on contract at all?

Also looking around I'm only seeing the 2GB/16GB version in stores locally (and gold for some obscure reason).

Regarding Geekbuying: Anyone purchased their phone from them? Just curious how it works and what their experience was.

I did see the mtn deals now stock Xiaomi. Hopefully in a few months, they will stock the Note 3

2GB ram is plenty. I have never seen below 500mb available.

Anyone figured out how to get more icons on the screen? I.e. change the grid size

Thanks! Will keep an eye out (unless I buy before then)

Agreed - More worried about the 16GB storage. Unless I misunderstand - its either dual sim or sim + SDCard.

5GB ish free out of the box. I've chosen to use both sim slots and will clear the device of photo's regularly as they push up to dropbox anyway. The phone is very good at asking to clear temporary files: cleared 500mb of cached data on the weekend when the phone prompted me to.

I'm quite liking this phone... Don't think I will keep it for ages but it does the job for now :)

Finally pulling the trigger and selling my S5. Happy with the Xiaomi as a daily driver and won't be able to go back to single sim now.

You have to try a different launcher. I'm using Nova Launcher. It offers a lot of customization plus you can have an app drawer. You can also edit the grid size. The phone feels premium with this launcher.

You are correct about either dual sim or sim plus SD card. I've opted for the latter, as I'm on MTN prepaid with data from Afrihost via their APN.

The only thing I dislike about the phone is the camera. I'm also ditching my S5 for this phone, but the camera is a slight downgrade.

I'm going to have to keep this phone for 2 years after which I won't mind upgrading to another Xiaomi by then

The camera isn't so bad when you've got good enough lighting but it's definitely not up to flagship standards of the past.

Agreed on the camera. That is the only downgrade for me but it is not terrible on the Xiaomi. I took some pics at a construction site today and the detail on a pc, while not S5 sharp, are perfectly acceptable.

I was playing with the S5 yesterday while my Xiaomi was charging. Man it is sluggish and the battery went down 20% in an hour of heavy use. Can't say how much I enjoy the 2-3 days of battery life on the Xiaomi.

Has anyone found a tempered glass for the phone locally?
Has anyone dropped/scratched their note 3 yet?
