Good day..

I'm currently having trouble networking between an XP computer and a win 7 computer...

Well, here is the situation:

3 computers at home, 2=XP, 1=Win 7...

All workgroup is on "workgroup"

The two XP's can see each other, but neither one can see the win 7 computer.

On win 7, I switched everything on, except of that password thing.

I haven't really done anything on the XP computers.

:confused:What I have tried:

CMD. I ping both the XP computers and on CMD it can ping them. (And so can the XP computer.)

Still nothing shows up.

Also tried using "run" typing in the specific name of the computer (\\10.0.0.3) and it says I'm not allowed to access or it doesn't exist.

So basical I'm out of ideas:confused::confused::confused:

Thanks

I had similar issues and assume it must have to do with privileges etc. To get around it I created user accounts on the XP machines for the Win7 box then from the Win7 box I connected via Windows Explorer to the XP machines. A box then pops up asking for user name and password which I then entered and it bam, I was in. Probably not the right way to address the problem but it worked for me. Oh, I also assigned static IP's to each PC.

Disable firewall, enable file sharing, create a user acc on the XP and 7 PCs with same username/password combo

I see what you mean, but could you play lan games? Because that is actually the main point of why I'm doing this...

For your IP, did you use 198.162.0.x or 10.0.0.x?

Is your sharing setup like this on the Win7 system? ......

R-click file to share on Win7
L-click properties
Select "Sharing" tab
L-click "Advanced Sharing"
Select "Share this folder"
L-click "Permissions"
Select "Full Control" for XP systems to have full access

Don't use the "Homegroup" feature on Win7 .... that is only to share files between Win7 systems

All of your pc's have to be on the same subnet. In other words the IP addresses must all be 192.168.0.X or 10.0.0.X where x is a variable between 1 and 255.

I'm not wanting to share folders, I want to be able to lan.. None of the games I have installed works with the laning...

The game asks on XP, but not on window 7.. I think window 7 just blocks it...

I also think it's the fire wall, but I don't know how to make a "rule" for it..
