I have a BIG problem with Windows XP. I recently formatted my Windows XP Home. After the re-install, everything is EXTREMELY slow! My menus lag, it takes time minimizing and maximizing a program, when scrolling webpages I experience extremely sluggish performance. Generally my Windows is slow, and I can't figure out why. It's a fresh install after all. Before formatting, everything was running smoothly without any hassles. Here are my system specs if that will help.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+
1GB DDR2
160GB HDD
128MB GeForce 6150

Like I said, I've never had any problems. After the format however, it's a completely different story. Please help I need to get this fixed asap.

Thank you
GBM

Shot in the dark, is you CPU overheating maybe? Check that the fan is getting clean cool air to the heat sink...

The ones that came with the mb driver cd?

Another reason for menu being sluggish is if ur graphics card drivers are installed properly or not.

I just had a look at the device manager....

NO Display adapter
NO Sound Card
NO NOTHING!!

Where the heck do I find these drivers? I didn't receive a disk when I purchased the PC.

Download them off the internet, assuming you have access. Just do a search for the drivers in Google for the specific hardware that needs a driver and download the corresponding OS version off the manufacturer’s site.

Look, on the motherboard for the model number and on the graphics card for the make and model, then you can download them if you dont have the CD's... You could also try the generic drivers for the graphics card if you know what make it is like ATI or NVidia. If the Graphics is built in to the motherboard then you will get the drivers on the same page as the chipset drivers.

On a clean install you must do the following:

Install windows
Install Chipset Drivers
Install Service Packs
Install latest DirectX
Install VGA
Install Sound
Install any other <---- in this order for best performance ;)

Mobo website has the latest drivers for chipset, sound, lan and usb. Chipset drivers will almost surely take the lagginess away. Graphics cards drivers will make everything look purrrty. Those you get from Nvidias site ot locally from ftp.up.ac.za.

Ummm, not sure sure if CPUZ also gives mobo details but there are other apps that list all your hardware for you. Can't remember names right now but I'm sure someone will pitch in.

unknown? ummm, try right clicking it in device manager and letting it search the net (windows update) for for a driver.
