Hi All,

I just got myself a HP Pavilion Dv3-2030ei notebook but i want to install Windows XP on it, i hate VISTA. Obviously im going to need the drivers and software for the laptop but unlike my HP530 notebook, the HP site doesnt seem to have all the drivers and software for XP. What can i do?

Goto HP's web site, download all the XP drivers and then put them on a CD (Unzipped) and then format and reinstall and use the XP drivers.

Or... instead, wait for 7, upgrade to 7 and you'll be happy!

Download the drivers from the chipset manufacturers (Intel, Realtek, Marvell, Broadcom, AMD, nVidia, Ralink etc etc) website rather as they would also be more up to date.

You can use one of these utilities http://www.techsupportalert.com/node/84 to get all the chipset info for you notebook.

As the second poster said--you will be stuffed if you do not have drivers to kick start XP installation on SATA hard drive; I think the best thing for you is to try Vista out; install SP2 and you will see that it is not that bad. I actually am quite attached to this Vista SP2. and oh, jah; do a clean install and remove all the spam software on it. (note: you will have to burn a Vista recovery disc and driver disc before this).

Let us know what you decided.

If it is anything like the HP that I had with Vista installed you're stuffed.
HP have not released SATA drivers for XP so basically: your XP boot disk cannot see the HDD... very dirty trick.

Is it not possible to use manufacturer drivers? or generic ones?
Intel or AMD?

Not with the Pavilion that I had... tried everything: BIOS tweaks; slipstreamed generic drivers; even downloaded some ancient drivers from someone somewhere who had ripped them off a stiffy... no dice.

That fiasco made a switcher of me after over a decade of Mac hatred, well done HP & MS.

Thanks for the replies every1, its the INTEL processor. Some people say its not good to downgrade because the hardware would not perform the way it should. Is this true?

Tun@, ill check that link out now, thanks.

ok ive decided to go with Windows 7 because apparently its as good as vista looks but way faster. VISTA is just so irritatingly slow. However, the shops dont seem to have Windows 7, so where did every1 else get it from? Where can i get it?

If i download this version of Windows 7 i obviously have to reinstall the hardware on my laptop. Is there a good utility that can help me determine which drivers to download from the HP site because they seem to have more than 1 driver for each peice of hardware.

Yo Tun@, that was a brilliant site mate, thanx. Ive got all the drivers i needed now i just have to put it to the test after i download Windows 7.

Thanks to everyone else as well for the help.

ok i installed Windows 7. Installed all the drivers, some of them gave me problems and still cant sort it out. Also, where do i find outlook or windows mail in Windows 7?

to install XP You need to use Nlite a windows install slip streaming program which will allow you to make a windows XP install disk that loads SATA drivers. also check your bios make sure you disable advanced SATA mode if available
