you guys are probably tired of seeing all the new pc threads but you give such good advice ;)

anyways, i have never had a decent pc so i think its about time i spoil myself a little. the pc will be used to play games quite a lot and also be used for normal pc stuff like browsing interwebs, office etc.

i also want it to be future proof for at least 2 years and easily upgradable. i will be overclocking it just a little bit and also go SLI or crossfire in the future.

i have a budget of R17k. this is the rig that i have built up so far:

If you buy today, you can get a 2494HS at Kalahari.net for 2,1k with free shipping.

Are you sending subliminal messages? Do you perhaps work for Digitalsaonline.co.za? :D

Ya, on 2nd thoughts, there might not be that much to improve upon.

I'd change that HDD from Seagate, though. And have more space than 500GB if you want future-proofing..

Your budget makes me sad, but I shall help where I can :o
thanks ;)

lol no, i was initially going to buy the same rig from sybaritic but then i found digitalsaonline and almost everything is cheaper. the same rig from sybaritic would have been R18.7k
Nice Rig!
thanx, but you won't be saying the same thing in 2 years when i still have the same rig :o

what's wrong with seagate?

and i already have another pc which is used as a server on the network, and it has a few terrabytes of HDD space. should i still look into getting a bigger HDD than 500GB?

Future proofing isn't an issue with hard drives because you can always buy more, no sweat - and it'll be cheaper and faster by the time you need it. I wouldn't worry about getting bigger there.

Anyways it's a great setup. I couldn't really recommend anything to improve it. You'll be good for a couple of years - except when the next gen of gpu's arrive but you can't do anything about that.

that AMMO case is probably the ugliest thing on the planet, i would rather be caught in bed with an old beige case than THAT!.

p.s. well you said you will OC, so get a TRUE 120 instead . . . and a real case ftlog

Just with all the issues they are having of late, I would steer clear to be on the safe side. If you have all that other space then 500GB should be more than enough ;)

Yikes. To each his own and everything but that case is not my taste at all!

hmmm, i don't think that case looks half bad :o and i like it because it's so easy to carry around.

so which cases would you guys recommend at around the same price (+- R700)?

and will the true 120 fit on the socket 1366 motherboard?

it looks like i'll have to get the intel smackover board as no one seems to have the asus p6t board in stock :(

help me please... i'm already feeling buyers remorse even though i havent bought it yet. where can i get the p6t in stock?

Wait for the Asus, or get a MSI X58 Pro..
Or look into Gigabyte
