YANRT (Yet Another New Rig Thread)

it looks like i'll have to get the intel smackover board as no one seems to have the asus p6t board in stock :(

help me please... i'm already feeling buyers remorse even though i havent bought it yet. where can i get the p6t in stock?

Find another 600 and get the P6T Deluxe V2 OC Palm, you wont be dissapointed.

Also maybe look at the CM590 chassis, I have one and am very impressed.

after doing a bit of research it looks like the smackover can be overclocked and the only real differences between it and the p6t is 2 less ram slots and the lack of ide & ps2 connectors, and i plan on only using 6GB ram in tri channel mode and sata dvd/hard drives and usb keyboard/mouse.

so i have settled for the smackover at R2.4k. also knocks down the final price of the system by a few hundred bucks. so here's the breakdown after all the changes:

INTEL DX58SO LGA1366 motherboard
R2,496.60 from mustek

SAMSUNG 2494HS - 23.6" Wide LCD Monitor
R2,097.76 from kalahari

Coolermaster AMMO 533 Black
R723.90 from digitalsaonline

Seagate Barracuda 500GB S-ata2 16MB Cache
R547.00 from pcint

Corsair XMS3 3 x 2GB Kit DDR3-1600
R1,504.00 from sybaritic

Intel i7/Nehalem 920 2.66Ghz
R2,848.00 from pcint

Logitech 981-000025
R196.08 from digitalsaonline

Logitech 931352 Mx518 Blue
R463.00 from sybaritic

HIS Radeon 4890 Fan 1GB
R2,652.78 from digitalsaonline

Microsoft Digital Media 3000 Keyboard
R348.00 from sybaritic

Corsair TX750W nvidia SLi Ready
R1,504.00 from sybaritic

Coolermaster Hyper N620
R587.10 from digitalsaonline

for a grand total of R15,968.22, down from R16,564.36.

I would still look at a Coolermaster CM590/CM690..

MUCH sleeker looking cases.

nice rig, but it'll be worthless without a PSU!

Coolermaster RC-533-SWN1 , AMMo 533 , black , meshed side panel , No psu , top handle design + stylish power switch design : tools free for Pci+3.5"+5.25" ; 2 x front usb + 1 x ieee1394 + audio in/out - 5x 5.25", 1x 3.5", 4x 3.5" hidden - 1x blue led 120mm fan upto 2 - atx

I would never buy a gaming case with a PSU included.

Imajin did you already place your order? Because this x58 mobo is coming soon and should hit an MSRP of under R2k for a fully fledged overclocking performance board. Worth considering imo.

True story.

And make it a good one. Either my PSU or my unreliable electricity supply seem to be slowly killing off all my HDDs :(
