Year End Functions

All of mine have been good. Typically a spit braai, drinks and lots of food. Everyone is just chill, no forced activities.
Regional manager typically gives a short speech at start, thanking everyone for the years work, long service acknowledges . Then everyone is free to stay or go. Most typically stay a while before heading off. Not an issue if you skip it either. Italian/SA company.
 
MS teams party apparently. Never attended any other year-end parties so no chance of virtual one. Heard of vouchers but nothing yet.
 
I prefer braais in an open environment, preferably not anyone's place, everyone is free to mingle or mind their business, everyone is free to leave at any time, it's a relaxing time with no drama. I avoid restaurants and other formal setups where I would have to sit at a table and make small talk with people, especially people I don't like.

We no longer have those ever since the fatcat CEO who takes all the millions got here and went on some "cost cutting" exercise.

This looks like most big private companies - there is literally no CEO who is not a fat cat. If I have to guess, 90% of them are as useless as Public sector CEO's

This time they got legit excuse of covid instead of budgetary constraints.

Nice. I'm sure the secretary is not as excited as everyone else, but, gotta climb that ladder I suppose.

Hah. We did get bonuses and increases this year. :) There was hard tack too, and the dinner was decently catered. It was just for our little business unit, so probably only about 100-150 people there.
 
Wait, WTF, this is an almost decade old thread and @Arty loop is either banned and or won't come back, as is the usual case with him :thumbsdown:

We almost did lunch once
But he pulled out each time
I hate it when people do that
Oh well :confused:

Our staff lunch is in 2 weeks time today
Catering done here on premises
Some of the Okes are already saying they rather want the money
So management told them you either sit down and have a free lunch or if you do not want lunch you can go and carry on working or there will be stocktake to be done. Your choice.
 
Ours has just been cancelled due to many staff members not being able to make it.
I'm stuck at home isolating anyway so yah .. fun times thanks to Covid!

We got on very well back in the day
Frequenting the banter thread
Good guy
Had his number on whatsapp as well
But then one day he got banned and ignored all messages from all of us on WA
Pity
