Yes, those Dstv ads are loud

There's isn't a standard on volume, Adverts differ, channels differ.
They're all broadcast from different locations. The only central uint is your Amp or TV.
.

Except in the case of DSTV they are all broadcast from the same satellite and if they can apply encryption etc to the channels you'd think they could at least standardise the volume!

Speaking of encryption, was it just me, or did Sundays movie (Chronicles of Rid****) resemble a badly ripped 600MB download off of some obscure warez site?

edit: WTF? why does R.I.D.D.I.C.K remove the last 4 letters???

Apparently viral advertising is going to take over the normal channels of branding soon, people are much more inclined to watch a add if it's funny and they can share it with their friends, for example, I received an add for Guiness beer that had three blokes drinking a pint and then the add started going in reverse, back into evolution, brilliant add and I will remember it. Who knows maybe next time I'll buy a Guiness instead of a Killkenny.

Maybe Multichoice are trying to save some bandwidth! Anoybody know if we're going to get decent pay per view anytime soon btw?

I've been up in JHB for a few days and haven't had much time online. Didn't realise they stuffed up those links. Bit too late now I spose.

It's true that softer is better. Psychologically, people are almost compelled to listen to something that is softer. It's part of the reason that it's so scary when someone is quietly angry rather than shouting...
when they broadcast loud adverts I don't listen to the adverts but swearing at the multichoice useless management and getting seriously pissed off! Only issues is that most of the offending avderts are their own ones, so the only way to boycot the product is to effectively cancel the dstv!

I have one word for you that will solve all your troubles:

- Torrents

These are usually ad-free which means no more fumbling about the remote control whenever an ad shows up at the most critical part of a program to lower the volume.

I have actually worn out the volume down button on my remote because of this, and am now forced to use the wireless keyboard that they gave away when they introduced the disaster that was tv-mail on us a few years ago, as my means of controlling the decoder.

As far as Multichoice claiming that they cannot balance the volume between sources, they are talking through their necks. Most of their programs are running from Sony U-matic machines, which is basically a broadcast-class vcr.
It is very easy to balance the volume between two of these.

Just look at the drop-out that sometimes appear on the screen due to dirty or worn out heads, or improper tracking settings - similiar to your machine at home.
