MOSCOW -- A popular opposition figure in Russia's restive Ingushetia province was gunned down Sunday morning in the latest killing of a government critic in the North Caucasus, prompting outrage from human rights groups and raising fears of further violence in the region.

Maksharip Aushev, a businessman who had led mass protests against alleged abuses by the government's security forces, was driving on a major highway in the neighboring province of Kabardino-Balkaria when a passing vehicle sprayed his car with more than 60 bullets, authorities said. The attack also seriously wounded a passenger.

I am sad to say.. I have lost count of the amount of people that oppose the Kremlin that have died. So much for any kinda semblance of democracy.
 
I think you underestimate the gangsterism and terrorism factor in many of these places. Of course his colleagues will blame the "authorities".

Thats pretty warped.. so ALL the Kremlin opposer`s were killed by random terrorists and gangsters... paaaaalease. You are a terrible apologetic. Strangely the people who are killed are those opposing the Kremlin and kinda on the good side to your "terrorists". Like humanitarian aid workers uncovering Russian atrocities in Chechnya.

How many more people are you happy to see die to keep your point of view? Meh.. you are going onto my ignore list.. you honestly make me sick. I dont know how to deal with "humans" like you.

Yeah, it looks bad. Do you think it would help to rail at the ‘authorities’ and accuse them of being unable to protect their citizens? Put them on the back foot?

I think the best thing people like us at this end of the world can do is not allow a veil of ignorance or stupidification to cover our eyes. Lets call the Russian government what it is.. an autocratic murdering non-democratic government. Democracy does not mean killing those who oppose you... and peacefully!

Never allow opinions like sackboys to take hold of our society... otherwise we will have lost our humanity. Talk about the issue, inform people about the issue and write about the issue.

The people of Russia and the rest of us who share this world with them deserve better.
 
Ingushetia is in a mess thanks to Putin and his obsession with Chechnya, now it's spilled over and 100s of people are going missing just like in Chechnya.
 
I find it strange that, just because you don't hear of it, everyone believes stuff like this couldn't EVER possibly happen in a place like America or Germany. Because assassination is so 1960's,70's,90's. All developed first world governments that were built on the backs of slaves and killed a president less than 50 years ago, suddenly turned humane in the 21st century? Come on.

If someone threatens national stability, they are removed. It's really that simple. After all, wizard favours socialism. One for all, no? The majority of the country is going up, who cares if some people are dying for it? Cover up the atrocity that never hurt the majority of the country and carry on dancing. After all, that's the vision of the future. Where the needs of the masses are regarded above the needs of the minority.

I hate the policy, but I'd do the exact same if I were in the position of a country's leader; someone whose greatest enemies are inside the house and are lurking everywhere in the country he runs for them.

Just show us the evidence or anything that shows a direct link to the Kremlin. Oh, wait, there isn't one.:rolleyes:

Those same Chechnyans commit enough atrocities to warrant that type of behavior. If people weren't so bloody hippy, then half the terrorism in this world would be non-existent. Screw the Chechnyans.

The last thing I would call any of those people in that part of the world is "hippy". They certainly dont sit around a campfire in drum circles singing coombaya and stroking rabbits while toking on a joint.

When Soviet Russia tried it's "hippy" policy Poland and the rest of East Europe broke away peacefully and Germany united peacefully, when Yeltsin was a drunk dictator the Chechans wanted to break away too but missed the hippy train so Yeltsin went in with a hulk smash attitude, this created the terrorism in that region. Hippies do more good to the world than the hulk smashers.

I tend towards that view. The West is just as scumbaggy except that because of their ideology, they are more adept at concealing scumbaggery. With all the propaganda, misdirection, etc. about covert operations, you would never discern any truth anywhere anyway. My view is to privilege human rights – that (at least) is transparent.

You are correct in your post (IMO) but your views are hardline and hawkish and may lead to confrontation (no-one will EVER admit wrongdoing) and mega-death and misery. I am seeking solutions that do not result in a zero-sum equation.
 
No, they're not hawkish or hardline. I simply break things down to the most basic of truths. I am amazed every day how difficult that is for 99% of the world.

Going into the details would be wasted on people who don't understand the basics; government is government and they act similarly all over the world.
