Yikes! More electricity price increases

Sure, lets pay even more for something we can't live without.

Bloody pathetic. Yet those aluminium smelters still enjoy their grossly discounted rates.

+1.

I don't know where they get 41c to 54c. I calculate differently. I posted this elsewhere: The second of three 25.9% electricity increases by Eskom only kicks in on 1 April 2011 (1 July 2011 for Joburg City Power), yet the unit cost of electricity has gone from R0.33 in 2008 to R0.59 for 2010. So by July 2012, we will be paying between R0.94 and R1. How much you want to bet BHP Billiton is/will still paying R0.25 per unit? That just ain't right.

Note this is what I'm calculating from my City of Johannesburg statement as a residential user (house) who uses a very reasonable 1200 units per month (whatever the measurement) according to my meter.

In the Garden route area, we also pay "rental fee" for each day we don't buy electricity.

I know it is pricey, but maybe not so, but go solar if you can. Averaging about 330 units a month.

Quote: Friday’s increase, which will see the average price per kilowatt hour (kwh) of electricity rise by 10.73c from 41.57c last year to 52.3c per kwh, according to Eskom spokesperson Hilary Joffe, forms part of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s (Nersa) approved second multi-year price determination (MYPD2).

I am not sure we this woman gets this bs from because i only get 286 units for R200-00,definitely not the price quoted in this article.
If you read further she goes on to tell us we are to too stupid to understand the pricing structure, not all of us in this country are frigging halfwits, ffs

Bloody thieves

If the municipalities clamped down on half the people stealing electricity in the country these increases would not be necessary !
A mate of mine who worked for the municipality went into a certain area in PE to disconnect illegal connections and was dowsed in petrol with people ( I use that word in the loosest sense of the term) flicking lighters and matches around him.
The poor bloke will never be the same again, his black colleague legged it when he saw the mob coming.
They are killing those of us who do pay rates & taxes.
What happens when we cannot afford any more increases ?
This used to be a great country to live in,not anymore though.
