v0v, good for us when the SWC ends then. I guess all that additional capacity was reserved.
Would all be fine if SAIX/Telkom allowed MWEB to use SAT3...

The US$ 600 million Seacom system has a design capacity of 1.28 Tbps, but will initially only be equipped at 80 Gbps.
Yes. As well as the 2x20Gb optic fibre links from all the stadia to the Midrand control centre - this will take care of some of the backhaul bottlenecks!

Each stadium has 2x20Gb fibre links? What are they used for? What WILL they be used for in future?
Broadcast links from the stadium to the FIFA broadcast centre in Midrand. They are redundant routes, meaning that they follow 2 separate paths from the stadium to Midrand. This is some serious bandwidth that will be freed up after 12 July!!! It won't solve us customers' problems but it will make our life a little bit better!
But what is fed across these links? Video streaming? How will links from stadia help us in future?
Eskom went down and the trains are late, LETS BURN DOWN THE STATIONS, that will teach Eskom!!!!
Stupid is as stupid does.

Some more examples:
- Municipal strike. Garbage bins staying in the streets. City Council doesn't care, it will stay there until the strike is over. Also, no refunds. (guess that's why we don't have rates payers associations withholding money for councils)
- Eskom or City Council cuts my power off due to a fault in the network. They will fix it "ASAP" (took 3 days last time it happened) and I won't get a refund there. (how are you managing to pay for electricity you're not using, my meter only tends to run when I'm using power???)
- Street lights in my street has been off for over a month recently. Repeated calls to City Council got no-where. No rebates on my rates & taxes for this. (guess that's why we don't have rates payers associations withholding money for councils)
- Something happens to my ADSL line Tuesday evening. Back up again Saturday afternoon. Telkom says "best effort" and does no refund.
Compared to the above, which people accept as normal, MWEB has actually been stable this month. I counted 12 hours of international downtime so far where I got no international access at all. For a "Best Effort" service it's not bad at all. With all the money I saved by subscribing to them, I can afford 1 or 2 GB of WA bandwidth to tide me over.
http://www.h320video.com/images/pdfs/ADSL_BASICS.pdfThe Main Limitations of ADSL Broadband are as follows.
1. ADSL is not a Guaranteed Bandwidth Service. Unlike conventional
leased line services, the achievable performance of the ADSL network is
not guaranteed.
http://www.satweb.co.za/ADSL_faq.htm#q10Is SatWeb ADSL a guaranteed service?
As the Service is provided over Telkom infrastructure and Telkom does not provide any guarantees in respect of quality of service over its ADSL infrastructure, no guarantees in respect of quality of service are given by SatWeb!.
The only thing we CAN guarantee, is that we look after our customers!
http://www.kingsley.co.za/?page_id=225Q: What is the difference between ADSL, ISDN and Diginet services?
ADSL
Telkom’s ADSL access service will offer you a permanent connection to the Internet with no dial-up necessary. It operates over the same copper wires used for your telephone service. You can make and receive calls or send a fax and surf the Internet at the same time. You pay a monthly line rental and no dial-up costs. Telkom doesn’t guarantee any throughput speeds on an ADSL access line. A cap or limit is enforced, and traffic is ’shaped’ to cater for normal business usage.
Diginet or leased line
Diginet or leased line provides you with an always on service. You can host websites or email servers on a Diginet link, but cannot do so using Capped ADSL. It provides guaranteed bandwidths between any predefined destinations. You will experience no traffic congestion, as the connection is not shared with other customers.
