What are your broadband costs?

I have ADSL 192 (speeds are quite good), and a Cybersmart 3G account for R100 pm.

Hence total broadband costs per month: R370.

This is the best deal for home users at the current stage IMO. Anyone know of a better deal? :)
 
Hey, im just about to get my 192 adsl installed "2nd Nov" and considering getting the R100 cybersmart account, howz it going for you? R100 sounds too good to be true?
 
I have complained about them not mentioning the analog line rentel you have to pay for. So its actually the mentioned price PLUS R100. They just ignore my emails. Now what im wondering about..what if the service goes down and i need their help...will they ignore those emails also. I refuse to pay someone for something i dont get!!! :mad:
 
Will they still be supplying those 3gig accounts for R100 after 1Nov.. I would check it out first, R100 isn't really possible anymore.
With the analog line rental thing, if you already have a telephone dont you already pay that fee, I think most people have telephones so then you arent actually paying that R100 extra. Or do you pay another R100 above youre normal telephone's rental cost?

My broadband service is provided by Telkom and costs more than the monthly salary of the average South African.

It is everything I want from a broadband service: slow, capped, shaped and over-priced.

I feel privileged everyday because I know that it is Telkom's best effort.

It is one sweeeeeet deal!
 
I pay just under R1000 per month for 1024kbps and 30gig now. After Nov.1 I'll be paying the same for 10gig.

Yes, robmugaap. A better deal anywhere else in the world except Russia and some benighted countries in Africa such as Ethiopia, Ghana and South Africa.

To get a better deal, you would have to emigrate

I must get me one of those deals...it's coming up to bonus time and I need to blow my squillion rand on something - might as well be the excellent Telkom best-effort service! :rolleyes:

Nothing gives me more pleasure than having to pay for a slow, capped, shaped, over-priced service, which 80% of the time cannot even connect to any of SA's wonderful local sites, let alone any crap international ones... :p

Currently my broadband costs are:
Telkom line rental, etc = R477+VAT + + + + + all the other crap they add on
3GB M-Web = R349.00 - business account
2 x 30GB Axxess - R349 x 2 = R698.00 - private use
1 x 30GB AYCE = R580.00 - business also...

Grand total is about R2170.00 p/m...

...so with my squillion Rand bonus, I should be able to get at least a 5GB account that is capped, shaped, slow, way-over-priced, and not working 99% of the time... :D

EDIT: 22h30 - as I am typing this, the whole network seems to have had another of it's major brainfarts - maybe the central hub in the gamadoolas distributing the international and local incoming/outgoing bandwidth has been hit with T3-WTF?-I-Dont_Know problem again and will be off for the next 2 years...!!! the joys of living in Africa... 3rd world...soon to be 4th world
I probably won't be able to post this again untill Feb 2006, so have a great Christmas and new Year! :rolleyes:

If this is "best-effort" service, then I'd hate to think what bad service is!!!!

Can I interest you in an ADSL account in Ethiopia? It's cheap, only R15000 per month for 512kbps and a 3gig cap with latency of 50 minutes

...let me get 3 of those too - I love connections with latency of 45mins + :D

I think our Telecomms Minister thinks 512K is her salary, not the speed we should have!
A 3gig cap is a hat you are given with the 3GiG corporate logo!
ADSL = Another Damn Sodding Lunch! ;)
