Good day everyone.

Im not here for advice but to hear about your past experience.

I need to move me, my wife and daughter (27,26 and 2) to a better medical aid plan.

Discovery keycare is costing us a lot to try and follow their specific rules so we want a normal medical aid and gap cover.

Doing all the research is starting to confuse me and brokers seems to only want to sell a specific product.

We only have R3500 per month for us 3 so options are limited.

1. Does any one have medical aid in that cost area? which one is it and what is your experience with it?
2. Even if ur medical aid cost more how is ur experience with ur medical aod provider?
3. Does any one know of a good gap cover?
4. Does anyone know a proper medical aid broker?

Thank you for your opinion about ur medical aid.

Wow, this is a difficult one. If it wasn't for the small child I would have said go Hospital plan and gap cover only. Myself, the wife and 4 kids. I can't even remotely give you any good advice or share my experience. As of late Medical aids are all about savings, you pay for your doctor visits and so on anyway. I'm on CAMAF and that shyte is expensive man. Kids are gtting slightly older now. Thinking of going to a Hospital plan only now in the near future. Twins are turning 6 next year and tehy not as sickly as they used to be when they were small. But with small children best would be to have a full package tbh.

Go with StratumBenefits for Gap cover , we have claimed 3 times in the past 4 years from them , no issues. They pay for what they advertise. Cost about R200 a month for the family covers upto 500% in hospital

Iwas thinking the same thing with the hospital and putting my own savings aside. One broker told me that is a good option if i dont take a higher plan. My concern with that is what if somethings goes wrong with any one of us and the hospital plan is not good enough

I would also suggest the classic delta. We moved from KeyCare, similar family structure, it was cheaper to go to Delta, and we get better benefits.

I am with Medshield the Mediplus option I pay R3735 for myself my wife and a child.
We get R6600 day to day cover and 13 doctor consultations a year which don't touch your day to day.
Unlimited basic dentistry every 6 months.
I have gap cover with Complimed for R121 which covers to 400%.
Works out to a bit more than you want to spend, but we have not had any problems with either one paying.

I have GAP cover with Alexander Forbes for about R 80.00 a month. Covers all short falls I think up to 400% tarrif. I will have to double check.

Check out Bonitas Medical Aid as well. Not sure on the pricing but their service is excellent so far, been with them for 4 years and haven't had to pay in for anything (except a few non prescription meds). Had a CT scan done recently didn't have to pay for that, went to to a ENT specialist, didn't pay anything.

Discovery Classic Core (Hospital Plan + Chronic Medication) and pay for doctors visits and medication from your pocket. Will save you a lot of money if you have a relatively healthy family, but in the case where admission to hospital is required, you know you're covered. Many doctors and private pharmacies will also give you preferential rates for paying cash, instead of giving them the headache of claiming from medical aid.

If you are at the coast then Discovery's Coastal Saver should sort you out for about R3350.

We're on a Fedhealth hospital plan and they just declined to authorise hospital costs for my kid to have dental work done under GA so we're looking at R23,000 out of pocket bill.

The msit site is awesum. Everyone should use it. A broker informed me that if u dont go for the comprehensive medical aid (r5000 and up) then i might as well take hospital and save the rest

I'm on Bonitas Bon save, paying avout R3700 (2 adults and 2 kids) for you should come under R3300
It basically a hospital plan, with savings for day to day expense, i've only been with them for a year, but so far they have covered everything we had and not experienced any problems.

Isie have you checked out the boncap option, also cheapish but gives you more benefits.

yep looked at it, but I would end up paying a little more on boncap , they more or less the same, except bon save I get the savings so if i don't use it all, at least i can use it the next year.
Yeah suppose it is down to the individual needs. I'm happy with Bonitas been with them for 5 years, excellent service.

Can someone brokering medical aid please contact me directly. I am looking for medical aid that covers 2 adults and 4 children bearing in mind I want to compare prices and features" to the plans offered by Medihelp where kids are "free"

Apologies for resurrecting an 1 year old thread, but I am also looking at getting a Medical Aid / Hospital Plan. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Just for myself, cheap and it might be something I only use once a year...
